RCBS uniflow powder measure

UPS dropped it off tonight and I am going to try it out. I took it apart and wiped it down to get the oil off. I also set it up with the handle even with the micrometer. Anyone got a pic of a homade beer can baffle or another baffle they made? I am going to wipe it down with the dryer sheet prior to use. Thanks guys, for the helpful hints and info.

I bought a baffle for my RCBS powder measure. I also replaced the original adjustment column with the Micrometer one. I can throw the tiniest of 380 Auto loads and the largest of 500 Magnum loads. There is no need to get two different Micrometers for it. Worst case scenario is I double-throw if the load is so large the single Micrometer throw won't handle it.

No matter what I use for dryer sheets to wipe it out, some powder sticks quite a bit to the innerds. I have to blow it out between uses.

I set mine up and once set up, I don't have to touch it at all. Then when I come back in a week or two and dial in the Micrometer (say 328), I check the weight and the powder is always RIGHT ON THE MONEY!

I can't remember which site I got it from, but Google fu powder baffle and it should come up with templates for different diameter dispensers.

I made my baffle out of a aluminum can.

I purchased the micro adjustment stem late last year and I wish I would have bought one earlier.

Always "double tap" the handle against the housing while throwing charges.

I bought the factory cast stand to mount it to my bench.

Here is powder baffle template that Jaybird was referring to I think; it came from this site. The article has good ideas about using two baffles and designing the baffles with different flows; all good things to try. Thanks Jaybird

I have three Uniflow somehow accumulated over the years and all of them work just great.

Cant say enough about them.

++1 Same here. I keep one with the small drum, and one with the larger drum, and use the one I need at the time.

I did a lot of research before choosing a powder measure and had a lot of positive feedback on the uniflow so got a used one from ebay. it only came with the large cylinder.

Based on additional reading, I also purchased the baffle.

the first time I used it, I ran ~20 charges through it to get the powder metering evenly.
Every time I change a load, I run it till I get consistency, then run 5-10 charges through it watching/calculating each drop and average out the total on the scale to see how accurate the load is.

every time I charge, I do so with approx the same speed of the charge handle to ensure consistency. I have not tried doing charges at different speeds to see what negative affects this would cause.

With a large cylinder, and Win231/HP38 I can consistently get w/in .05gr +- of my intended charge.

Different powders will give different results. I have not tried my supply of unique through the measure due to referred difficulties in metering.

I've used one for at least 30 years.

Using a baffle and the "double tap" method will give extremely consistent weights, even with the more difficult extruded powders.

My unit came with both the large and small cylinder. The small cylinder gives excellent results with small charges of handgun powder. I have never installed the large cylinder, since my rifle cartridge volume is small enough so I can weigh all my charges (maybe 250 round per year max).

If you are not using a baffle and the "double tap" method, try it; I think you will be pleased with just how well these two in combination work.

The powder dispenser that came w/ my Lee kit leaked titegroup powder. So I bought an RCBS & I've found it's much more consistent per throw & doesn't leak.

So I for one, highly recommend it.

Lots of good advice. Only thing left to add is this:

Buy the Small chambered drum and use it for everything you can. If you have to have more volume then use the large chambered drum.

You will find a maximum volume metered in the small chamber meters better than a large chamber metered to half or less volume.

The only thing I can add is what I do after adjusting the meter control.

I weigh 10 charges to see if the are 10 times the wanted charge. Just as a check!

I wonder how many other people use the large cylinder to charge small charges. Since I got mine on ebay it didn't have the small cylinder so thought I'd try the charge quality of the large before purchasing a small cylinder.

I load 9mm and 45acp so am around 4.5-5.5 grains typically. with that low of a charge, I do notice it's fairly tricky to get to the right charge(very small adjustments to the charge screw) but once I get it in the right place, I'm only reading +- .05 grains or less on average. I am using a easily measured ball powder so that might be why I'm getting such good consistency.

I find it interesting that RCBS only furnishes one cylinder these days when you buy the measure. When I bought my first one (39 years ago) it came with both.

Also as part of the RCBS Pro 2000 progressive press, you get the Uniflow included, with both cylinders and the micrometer!
