A local home invasion involved 6 bad guys...I usually just carry my ccw,a 5 shot snubby, while around the house(of course there are bigger ones around)but I am thinking ,I may need to increase the fire power a bit.
This took place in a small-ish town w/ a low crime rate.
It's a scary world,get a helmet.

This is a very personal decision. You can get a hundred or a maybe a thousand different (and valid) opinions on this subject. Bottom line is you are responsible for yourself and your family. Just make sure you you know how to use what you got and make sure you got it with you when you need it.

999 times out of 1000, those five rounds oughta do ya just fine. You can't (I won't anyway) completely alter your life so as to be equipped to handle any and all possible scenarios.
Besides, ya gotta die of somethin'.

Well, you need to look at other issues. With where you are living, your gonna max out at 11 rounds in the gun. I would look at other ways to make your house less inviting, and maxing out at 11 rounds.

We're in a small town where people really still don't lock their doors when they're out.

I lock ours especially when we are home.

I think you're OK with the snubbie in your house--I mean, the logical 'what if' for every scenario is a belt fed or (my favorite fantasy stand off weapon) a de-activated (but realistic) fragmenation grenade. The latter requires very good acting and crazy frothing at the mouth skills.

I often wonder about home invasion stories. Like, what percentage involve some other factor, like drug use/sales and/or other criminal activity.

That said, I carry my Glock 19 from the time I'm dressed until I go to bed. With small children its either on me or in the mini gunvault.

Seems like there's more to the story as someone implied. If there are 6 motivated creeps that keep coming after shots are fired, there's something sketchy going on in your house such as drug activity.

I would guess that in most peoples homes, a 6 person invasion is so improbable as to not even worry about it. That being said, I'm always within a short distance of more firepower.

For instance, I carry something (somewhere between 6 and 15 rounds of something) to handle the typical burglar. But, if some motivated team of people were kicking in my door (which is typically locked) I would retreat to another room where I keep more firepower ready.

how about a glock 26 with a 33 round magazine?

It's all about measuring your preparedness against the overall risk. If 6 guys storm your home, anything less than an AR (or other high volume, high capacity weapon) is probably not going to be be adequate. Furthermore, even IF you are VERY well trained, you have a pretty serious situation on your hands (6 to 1.)

So unless you want to sling an AR-15 around with you all day, I think a daily carry weapon is more than a reasonable level of preparedness. You can't be 100% prepared for every scenario, and certainly not always the worst-case scenario. It's just not practical.

Remember - the guy(s) entering your home are probably not expecting anyone to shoot at them. So the very fact that you have your CCW gun on you constitutes points in your favor.

And carry that around in a holster?

It's all in the mindset: You have a 5 round revolver and your house is invaded by 6 men...you're gonna have to pistol-whup one of 'em to death.
It ain't rocket surgery.

And not a single man among them, as my little brother would say "come get ####ed". My Sig has 13 rounds of .40, if I hear em coming they could get 8 round of 00 Buck or 30 rounds of .223 depending on how commando I am that day.

You can hold most anybody at gunpoint until the boys in blue get there.

Or hold them at gunpoint and tell them "Now, boys, I'm not real good with guns, so let's hope I hit the guy who acts-up first"

Well from what i see in the movies, you get can get the 6 guys lined up, one round will do you just fine :p.

Anyways, there are plenty of 6 rounds snubbies out there, look in to that maybe?

Six? Sounds like you need to get out if possible. If you are not leaving anyone behind you care about run for it. If retreat is not an option than you need reinforcements. Without body armor and a high capacity weapon you would not likely defeat six or four armed men who are invading your home. If there are other family members than they should carry and be trained as well.

Not 6 ARMED BG's. Most BG's will put the Shoebaru's in high gear once they hear shots. If not, then I run like an Olympic sprinter.

I say that being worried about having 6 rounds as opposed to 5 is a moot point. If you're going to change the CCW for more capacity, get a double stack semi. You have to decide if it's worth it to change your whole lifestyle to be prepared for something thats less likely than winning the lottery.

If so, invest in a lot of semi-autos that use the same mags (brand doesn't matter but something thats cheap with cheap mags would be good). Scatter said semis throughout the house. Keep a spare mag or two with you at all times. I like the AR HD Carry gun idea too.

I hope you live alone if you were ever to need to defend your home against 6 or more BG's because thinking about all of those backstops makes my head spin. Engaging all of them would be hard enough. Not killing one of your family (if applicable) or neighbors at the same time would be harder.

My remedy for multiple BG's?
Mossberg 500A, (5) #4 shot in the tube and 4 more in the speed feed stock. That runs dry, out comes the 1911 with a 10 round mag in it (assuming I don't just go to swinging the 12 ga like I'm Babe Ruth). That runs dry, I'm screwed no matter what I've got left (14 more 1911 mags BTW).

What do I normally carry while inside my home? NAA 22 mag 5 shot. :neener: All those mags would be heavy.

Of course, if you have ammo and extra guns readily available, what is the problem? If I am confronted in my home, I have plenty of supplies to fight my way to my rifle which is what I really want to use. However, I carry my G19 around the house day and night! And yes, the 33 rd. mag is readily available. That should suffice until I get to my real firepower!

Yes, most intruders would normally split at the first sign of a gun and/or shots. I agree, if you have people in your home, you need to rethink your security issues!

the essentials

motion sensors on outside flood lights
double stack semi-auto pistol
shotgun w/ mag extension
monitored alarm system
