As an unexpected surprise, I received 500 rounds of .303 British mil-surp ammunition as a gift from a coworker who, after an inspection of inventory, found some fodder for a rifle he no longer owns.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, I certainly won't be disappointed if this ammunition is substandard as far as military surplus goes (worst case, I've got components), but that certainly doesn't appear to be the case.

After pulling a round, I found what appears to be a 174gr flat based lead core bullet, spherical powder and my favorite... what appears to be boxer priming (one flash hole as opposed to two).

After a brief search, I've found nothing on this particular ammunition. On the case head is stamped "HXP 70". I'm presuming the manufacture date is 1970, but hopefully with the knowledgeable folks here can determine if this is indeed non corrosive and the nation of manufacture.

Thanks in advance!

[Edit: found some info on this ammunition using Dogpile... appears to be Greek manufacture and all info so far points to it being somewhat accurate and noncorrosive (http://members.carol.net/~on.melchar/303brit/303-hxp.html)]

I've got some head stamped .303 surplus that is '64. I can tell you for a fact that mine IS corrisive. You can always fire a few rounds of yours off and leave it sit overnight and look to see if the bore turns green. I think. Might just as well play it safe with that ammo though. Windex'er up.

Yup, that's Greek surplus. I had some, and it's good stuff.

Your'e a lucky dawg, Snowdog. That stuff is very hard to find around here. :)
