recoil of P220 and Springfield Loaded

I'm looking for a .45 semi-auto as my next gun. I have shot a stainless 1911 (cant remember the brand) and the recoil wasn't all that bad and the grip was fine for me. I shot a SIG P226 in 9mm and liked the grip, so I'm looking at a P220 full size in .45.

if I go 1911, I'm looking at a Springfield 1911 5" Stainless Steel Loaded.

anyone shot both? which one gave you more recoil? I'm just interested in the recoil factor. I was told to always go heavier if you want to lessen the recoil but the weight differences between the two isn't really huge but just wanted some opinions.

Haven't shot both but I just bought a Loaded and it is awesome. It has a nice punch...not a violent recoil. It's powerful but controllable. Also extremely accurate.

I've shot both. The recoil in either pistol is very manageable. I felt they were about the same. The 1911 is a little heavier, so technically it may give a little bit less felt recoil, but not enough to make a difference in buying one over the other. If this is your first .45 ACP, then I'd go 1911 since everyone should have one.

I dont think you'll really notice much difference. I used to have a number of Springfield's, including a Loaded model, and I have a couple of P220's and a P220 Carry.

The P220's are actually more of Commander sized gun, not that it really matters. .45's are basically .45's, if you've shot one, you'll pretty much know what to expect from most of the others.

I prefer the SIG's as the last half dozen or so Springfields I've owned were a PITA. My Loaded was the biggest PITA of them all too. Personally, if I was looking at a 1911, I'd go with a Colt, but thats just me.

I have owned both. Sig 220ST and SA Black Stainless Target. My hands are small, so the Sig didn't fit as well. Sig had less perceived recoil because of the wider grip and softer back-strap. I wasn't shooting my Sigs much and sold them. I don't shoot the SA as much because I have a couple nicer 1911s.

Both were accurate and reliable. If my hands were bigger I'd still have the Sig.

Hey if you get the 220 be sure to get a set of the slim grips!! A real + on my pistol.

Two very nice guns but dont get a 220 thinking that it will feel/shoot anything like the 9mm 226. If it was me, id get the 1911. The 220 feels very lite for a .45 when your shooting it. After owning and shooting both, id still go with a full size (5") 1911.
