Saw the Beretta 9000sf .40 S & W on SALE at Gander Mt. for $350ish. I was tempted to pick one up. I have a Steyr in .40 S & W and have come to really prefer the caliber. I have a SIG P-225 (very nice shape) that I could sell to buy the Beretta, but the reviews on the 9000sf have not been too promising.

This gun, of course, would be a later production model and Gander Mt. DOES offer a 12 month in-house gunsmith service warranty on what they sell.

What are the good guns out there in .40 S&W in the $400 range? I would prefer a DA/SA pistol.

Unless you really hate it, try not to sell that Sig if you can.....
but if you do, how much do you want for it??

I like Sigs - so I would recommend either a P229 (compact) or a P239 sub-compact. The P229 uses a double stack magazine and holds 12+1. The P239 uses a single stack magazine that holds 7+1. You can get both in a DA/SA.

compact .40 xd sevice, sub compact xd sc. they are both great guns and i own them both and fully endorese em.

Glock 27 or Springfield XD40 Sub-compact.

I've shot the Glock and it is pretty good. 10+1 in a package that is lighter and slightly smaller than a 1911 officer's model.

I'm a die hard 1911 fan, but I do admit that the Glock or XD is a good choice as far as .40s go.

I would go with either the XD compact or a M&P compact. The compacts in the M&P are more prone to an issue with their mag-release but S&W has been good about getting this fixed so anything rolling off the line should be just fine.

It's not DA/SA, but I too recommend the XD-40. Picked one up a month ago and am still in love with it. Mine's the sub-compact. Very, very accurate for such a small gun.

That P225 is a great carry gun. Are you getting rid of it due to capacity limitations, or to switch to 40sw?

Before you buy anything, find someone or somewhere who will let you try carrying your other options for a few minutes, the added bulk may surprise you. I love my P229, but sometimes I wish it were single-stack.

Shot Glocks 26 and 27 dead on this weekend.

Why carry a big gun when the smallest are thoroughly accurate?

Proud 27 owner- I shoot it as quickly and as well as my 229

I shoot a G-27. it is dead on nuts accurate at 20 feet. It has never jammed, or let me down. I use 180gr. winchester sxt's. I have the "Glock" +1 mag extention that allows for 10+1 carry. I have the meprolights also. I think that this is the perfect ccw package.

I don't like berettas because they have exposed barrels that let too much debris into the action. I have owned a 92,and a ruger p-85, and was unhappy with their reliability, or accuracy. I bought my first Glock in 1994, and have had nothing but a good experiance with them. I now own 3.

Like stated above, if you can afford it, the H&K P2000 SC in .40s&w is simply superb!!! I had mine with the LEM trigger and I'm currently trying to track down another because I loved it so much. You can probably save $80-$110 if you get the SA/DA USP Compact. Worth the extra cash to me and it has the interchangeable grips, the USP compact doesn't. It sure is nice to say and know that you own an H&k too!!!

I like my Kahr too, even more concealable!

Check out the P239. And like others have said, the whole curse thing for selling a sig, and MAN! don't sell a discontinued sig like the 225!!! Bad things are going to happen...bound to happen......... oh man....

Presumably your Steyr is the M model if you're looking for a compact, so find an S model and you'll have your compact.

The Beretta 9000s is a good pistol, but it's wide grip tend to make it hit-or-miss for many people as far as ergonomics go.

The 9000s did have problems with the F model (DA/SA) with the decocker, but the D model (DAO) had no problems.

I probably should have mentioned this in my intial post, but the SIG P-225 is actually a P-6. That MIGHT make a difference in some of your recommendations?
