Recommend a tack driving .22

another fan of the cz, i have never shot a .22 so accuarte as a cz.

next on the list would have to be a nylon 66 which i have one of but they are hard to find.

My definition: if a .22 rifle can't do one hole groups at 100 yards or more....it's most likely a plinker.

My rifle can do it, but I can't, so I must be a plinker. :D

Another vote for 10/22. I there's no doubt that a bolty CZ is going to be more accurate than the 10/22 out of the box. My two points:

First, semi auto .22lr are more fun. Period.

Second, building up an accurate gun "just the way you want it" it half the fun!

I have a 10/22, and I love it to death. It's my ONLY .22 rifle right now. It's reliable, which I love. It's accurate enough for plinking. I'm sure it's accurate enough for squirrel at short distance, too.

It is not a tack driver.

It used to be fun for me to send a lot of lead downrange quickly, but the more I shoot, the better I get. The better I get, the more I realize that I'm approaching the limit of what my 10/22 can do without expensive modifications.

I want to start hunting squirrel and rabbit. "Follow up shots" are not an issue when you're hunting fast little rodents. If you miss, the animal runs away in a hurry. Shooting at such a small, fast target would be unethical at best, since you couldn't guarantee a clean shot. Now I want a rifle that can deliver consistent headshots on squirrel, and it looks like a CZ bolt action is going to be my tack driver of choice.

Unless I can get my hands on a Romanian M69 .22lr trainer.

Accurate .22

Hi,
I am amazed that the little Marlin model 60 has not been mentioned yet. For little money you can get a semi-auto put on a decent rim fire scope and shoot circles around other .22lr in any configuration costing 2-3 times as much. They seem to be an anomaly with their accuracy/reliability/dollar value over the years. I have seen them for sale used for under $100 in very good condition.

Right you are about their accuracy. I've seen them used in good condition around here for as little as $60.00.

Well, I suppose im looking for a one holer to plink with

Start with a used Marlin 60. $60 to $100.00, and incredibly accurate.

Then get a CZ-452, best value for the money, and one hole accuracy.

Then a Marlin 39a, very accurate and a piece of American history.

Then a Ruger 10/22, everybody has to own one.

First, semi auto .22lr are more fun.

What are your reasons for this?

Anything that increases the ease at which I shoot 22s is more fun. Some people might disagree. Some people think black powder is fun and I do not. I shoot 22s for the fun of it, and it's cheap, and easy, heck I don't even have to wear hearing protection... If I want I can buy a box of some match ammo and shoot some paper, but if I want to burn through a brick of crap, I can do that too. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a bolty, but what kind of weirdo doesn't like an auto 22?:D

i love my Marlin 60. i got it used form a friend for $60 with a case and scope. he had never really shot it.

i just put a tasco 3-9X40 scope and weaver see through rings on it $44.54 at wally world. i ended up putting over 50 rounds through a quator sized hole at 50 yards and was getting a 1 inch group at 100 (wind was constant 5-7mph with gusts) that was just with a basic bench rest.

its great for what i do and can out shoot me. i was looking into a 10/22 but the amount involved to just about replace everything to get a tack driver... no thanks not for me. i rather buy the CZ and build that.

10/22 is pretty awesome, but for an accurate pistol in .22lr, I love my S&W Model 41!

Been through Browning Buckmark, a Walther and a Beretta NEOS and they are each ok, but none of them shoot as well as the 41.

One hole at 50 feet or one hole at 100 yards?....that'll weed out a lot of your available choices.

I love my CZ-452s, but I have yet to buy a 22LR rifle for under $400 that even comes close to my RAA Biathlon Basic. They may be ugly, but they can shoot! And the trigger is incredible.

10/22 are great for the tinkerer, but it's pretty easy to turn a $150 10/22 into a $1000 rifle if you are really after accuracy.

It's probably easier to just buy a Volquartsen, and get a steel action in the bargain if you're going to go that route.

Cash--;

I'm gonna be maverick, & suggest something different. Get a CZ453! It's got the single-set trigger. That little feature is way cool. Use the single set option for target work, don't bother with it for plinking & most hunting situations. Best of both worlds for not all that much more money. If you're not shooting from the left shoulder though. The 453 isn't available in the left version at this time.

SO, if I were bound and determined to make a 10/22 a one holer at 100 yards, what would have to be done to it?

CZ 452 American. I love all my .22s, but this one I love above all others. Put a very good piece of glass on top of it. It deserves it.

Cash, Making a .22 into a one-holer at 100 yards? The experts can chime in here, but I don't think that's a reasonable goal. I'm going to say the first thing you need to do to achieve that is to change calibers.

Spend about $500---800.00 dollars. :p

You most certainly wouldn't be the first,or the last to go that route.

Or you could buy a used Marlin 60 for $75.00. :D

I am fascinated by the several claims of one-hole groups (for .22) at 100 yards. As I understand it, when you get this result with a rifle of any caliber you hold onto it! .22LR has a pretty low BC. How are these one-hole groups achieved, are they repeatable, and are there witnesses? Please forgive my scepticism... I'm no expert here, so this is new info to me.
