Recommend a tack driving .22

I am fascinated by the several claims of one-hole groups (for .22) at 100 yards. As I understand it, when you get this result with a rifle of any caliber you hold onto it! .22LR has a pretty low BC. How are these one-hole groups achieved, are they repeatable, and are there witnesses? Please forgive my scepticism... I'm no expert here, so this is new info to me.

I assume that it's just being used as an expression. If I shoot a dime sized hole at 50 yards, I'm happy.

any thought of a .17hmr? buddy had a savage with accu-trigger that he bought for $350, shot like a dream. a semi-auto .17hmr is on my "list"

Ummm, did anyone mention the CZ 452? Anyone? Bueller?.....

I picked up my buddy's (never even having held a CZ firearm before), aimed it at a small silhouette swinger 25yds away (iron sights, mind you), and nailed it. Then I did it again. Then again. Never have I shot that well with a new gun, and I am an average shot.

None right now at Buds, but Impact Guns has a few. Don't think about it too long.....

Many .22's are capable of one hole groups at 100 yards.....and many are not. The ones that I have that will do this is a Volquartsen and Winchester 52's. Unfortunately CZ452, Marlin, Remington, and others I have will not, they are not in the same catagory as premium grade target rifles. The other important factor that should not be minimized is the importance of quality ammo.

I'm gonna go ahead and tell you to buy a Henry. It is by far the best .22 I've ever shot and at an incredible price.

Fella's;

There are CZ's that will do it, as well as Remington's and others. I'm working on getting my 452 there, and I know that the Rem 40XB I used to shoot would do it. Unfortunately, the U.S. Army owns the 40XB, and I'm not gonna do what it would take to go back to usin' that one again.

Did a little searching to satisfy my curiosity about so-called one-holer .22's. NesikaChad says he built a sub-minute (at 100 yards) .22. Wow.

Regarding 100 yard shooting with a little 22... (www.gunsandgame.com)

I built this for Cathy Winstead. Cathy is the only person in the history of smallbore silhouette to win both world championship events in small bore rifle silhouette. She won in the heavy gun unlimited class and the hunter lightweight class. Lucky for me, I built both of her rifles. (woo hoo!)

...

At 100 yards using Eley TENNEX EPS the gun shoots a five shot group that averages right at about 3/4's of an inch.

Now, five shot groups aren't all that impressive to me. What I was taught with 22's is to shoot TEN five shot groups and then average the spread.

So, you end up shooting a 50 shot group to achieve a "real world" average and expectation for performance.

I read something on line where a guy was testing all sorts of .22lr in his rifle for accuracy.

I guess its true for all calibers but its pretty amazing what a difference the ammo made in the .22.
Some groups could not really even be called "groups" while others were just a ragged hole.

Usually, but not always, it was the expensive stuff that shot best. Go figure huh? Buy a .22 rifle and end up paying lots of money for good ammo.

I like that CZ, really nice looking rifle.
