The search didn't turn up a whole lot of info on this. I am looking to replace the stock iron sights on my MKII .22 lr. Just wondering what you folks would recommend. I have a scope on it, so the rear sight would need to go in the rear dovetail... not on the top of the receiver. I like my TechSights on my 10/22 but they don't make those for a MKII.

Thanks

I take it that you have a Savage Mark II model with open sights, and are looking for aperture (peep) sights instead? The current Savage Mark II-FVT comes with full target sights (front and rear) which I suspect are standard Lyman target sights. I'd call Savage and ask what model of sights they use on the Mark II-FVT and if they will also fit your rifle, reach out to Lyman and Williams to ask what they would suggest, and go from there.

You have a scope mounted. That rules out the multitude of conventional receiver sights and universal-type aperture sights that would attached to the rifle’s integral dovetail scope base.

What you want is a new rear sight that will attach where the existing factory rear sight is. Preferably without modification, in the factory rear sight’s dovetail.

With that in mind I’d recommend you look at a rear sight like a Millett adjustable pistol sight. The task will be finding the one with a dovetail that matches your rifle. The people at Brownells should be able to help you find a match. It is likely you will also need to install a taller front sight.

I had one of these on a Marlin Camp Nine, years ago, and it work great. Just knocked out the factory rear sight with a brass punch, and slide the Millett into the dovetail. It secures in the dovetail with an integral hex-head set screw. Slick little sight.
