I don't want to go through the hassle of mailing off my Dan Wesson to the manufacturer for a possible delay and possible halfhearted repair. I would rather pay money face to face to someone whose job is keeping local gunowners happy.

Feel free to disagree, but that said I'm still going to be looking for a local 'smith so help me if you can.

Issue is persistent FTE in my CCO. I've cleaned and checked the extractor. I've fired 400+ rounds of quality ammo including +p JHP to try to "break in" the match grade parts. No difference with various magazines, no difference with various ammo brands. Before the purists jump on me yes it's an external extractor but so is my SW which has been flawless, so it's not the basic design thereof.

95% of magazines have at least one FTE. I'd guess 50% have more than one. Perhaps 30% have three or more. Typically the casing is still 75-90% seated in the chamber and the next round is blocking the extraction. This makes it a bear to clear as I have to carefully pull back the slide while putting pressure on the top of the next round to move it down and back enough to drop the magazine, then rack the slide - usually taking three to four times - to finally pop out the casing, then reinsert mag and start again. Tried CMC's of various configurations, Mec-Gars and whatever comes OEM from SW (CMC's come OEM from Dan Wesson) as my first thought was an overly aggressive magazine spring. Still, no luck and no similar prob with the SW. Some of these mags have seen hundreds of cycles too.

Next thought is extractor claw but I'm already out of my realm - I'm nobody's idea of a tuner or tweaker - I am incapable of much beyond field stripping and cleaning, although I do make sure my pistols are thoroughly and frequently cleaned and lubed.

So unless there are some VERY simple things I could try can anyone point me to a MN (Twin Cities preferred) 1911 guy of good repute?

Much appreciated and thanks!

Try J&S Cusom Guns in Lakeville. They specialize in 1911s

Many thanks all. I'll try these folks probably starting with the 1911 specialists. Much appreciated!
