Record number of illegal immigrants tried to buy guns this year

And there is no way to tell how many illegals were successful in their attempts, either. Regrettable, but necessary to the idea of not infringing. It’s a flaw, but an unfixable one, because that would necessitate keeping a database, which is a no-no, and we’d also be exposed to that sort of scrutiny. Also not acceptable.
Exactly my point.

So crowing that 'only' 3,300 illegal aliens who don't belong in this country were barred from the purchase of buying a gun in 2017 (as if there isn't an cumulative effect over the years, year after year) when 'X' number of them were denied for other reasons or when they slipped through the cracks entirely and actually managed to complete the purchase isn't much of a brag.

On the news this morning in Alabama it said they had caught 4 men poaching deer in city limits right near a huge mall and shopping center.
all four men are citizens of El Salvador, and are here illegally. None of them could speak English and they had several guns and a huge amount of ammo they said

The 2nd Amendment says that "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." It doesn't limit that right to citizens, or even to those with a legal immigration status. (In 1791, anyone could come here freely. There were no border controls.) I think that conditioning the right to buy a gun on citizenship or immigration status may be unconstitutional. OK, deny the guy a gun based on verified criminality, but don't deny him just because he came here looking for a better life while crossing the border without the requisite formalities. He may in fact have a legitimate need for a gun, for self-protection, more than someone who is more established in this country.

You realize that each and every illegal alien in the United States has committed a crime and is subject under the law to immediate deportation ? You realize that an illegal alien attempting to legally purchase a firearm has committed another crime by attempting to purchase a firearm and possibly a third if falsifying statements on the form 4473? Regardless of why he/she/it illegally entered the United States, he/she/it has committed at least one crime already by doing so. Your scofflaw approach to US immigration law notwithstanding, there is a quite substantial logic gap in your statement.

Read their erratum:
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said the numbers were of attempted purchases. The report is of "active records" of those barred. Washington Secrets regrets the error.
Actually, it is a list of the number of prohibited persons (in NICS files) who would be denied by an NICS check IF they tried to buy a gun. It is NOT the number of NICS rejections in response to an attempt to buy a gun with a BG check.
