I get to watching all the war stuff on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, the BBC, and I get a bit paranoid. Scud attacks, attrocities on our POWs, vast just discovered chemical factories, weird Baghdad Presidential palaces reduced to rubble by unseen cruise missles, lit oil wells creating a modern Dante's inferno, our men and women upon dust choked armored columns going in harms way, and I think, how surreal.

Then I do something to feed my paranoia. I watch an old right wing jingoistic movie, with patriotic overtones, and all the symbolism of doom. Red Dawn. They say that it was Ronald Reagon's favorite movie. Indeed, for only his stubborn stoic and stiffed lipped resolve caused the fall of Communism. It fits.

But the battle is not over. When I watch Red Dawn, I am struck by the imagery. Invaders parachuting from the sky. How high school kids graduated from bolt and lever action to AKs. How in one moment, class was in session, and in the next, they are hard killers. And I think, it is only a movie, it can't happen here. Not in America. But it can.

What we are doing in Iraq is nothing short of the start of a world revolution, a revolution not of the people, but of the individual. Clearly, America has had enough, and we won't take lawlessness and corruption anymore. This is the start of a new world order. Not of socialism, or religous zeal, no, it is the century of the individual. That is the new world order.

Well, my THR brothers and sisters, I go back to Red Dawn for the poigniant finish. It is a good movie. Of course, the critics hated it. But I am with Ronnie on this one.

Wolverines!

Great Flik!

As sad as it is to admit it(and it might get me committed) when I was in my mid-late teens, I used to HOPE we would get invaded so I could run off in the woods and act the movie out.

Brad,

I pray to God that you are right!

I, too, love Red Dawn. I hope you're correct about the American sheeple being fed up and ready to fight any threat from outside our borders, or from inside.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

"Committed" has more that one meaning, Priv8ter.

If you are "committed" to Liberty and our Constitution, for example, then we're on the same side! ;)

Wolverines! :)

Yes, I know it was "just a movie," but.....

If only it were that simple, that clear-cut. If it were a matter of SHTF, defending ourselves and our loved ones, against a clear enemy, most of us here would rise admirably, even heroically to the task. Even in the case of a scenario more like what Israel faces daily, we feel strongly that we could do what's necessary if we saw something about to go down (of course, timing and opportunity are everything). But when it's something much more insidious, when the bad guys don't wear black hats or a red star, when it's our own neighbors, sometimes even family, who are working against what we feel is right, for reasons they may believe in just as sincerely as we believe in ours, when it's our elected representatives that make bargains and back-room deals to sell off our rights for enough votes to outweigh our point of view, when it's a slow black tide of insidious erosion of freedom and the right of self-determination, how much more difficult the battle!

I'm sure Reagan, like many of us, did like the movie. It's so much simpler than the real war against superstition, tyranny and oppression.

Ditto to that, priv8ter. It was only years later that I realized what the real cost of my fantasy would be.
