Red Rider BB Gun for XMAS

I actually bought myself a Red Rider for Christmas this year. I did this because my favorite Christmas gift was my Red Rider when I was 6 years old (63 years ago). The other reason is so that I can introduce my grandchildren ( age 3-5-7)to shooting when they visit. One mistake I made was to let my daughter know what I did, so the grandkids may not get to visit for a while??? My Son in Law is pretty excited! I thought I would have to buy a gun and then shorten it for the kids. I was pleased to find that they have a smaller version called the Buck. My nickname is Bucky, so I thought it was appropriate.

No firearms for me this year, and I never had a Red Ryder. My BB rifle was a Crosman M1 carbine. Still have it, though I don't know if it still works. Need to take it apart and oil it up, it's been down in my mom's basement for over 40 years. I've also got a Marksman BB pistol that dates back almost as far. But that thing flat out still works!

I got mine!

Yup, a Red Ryder BB gun! My stepson got me one to with the...........

Yup! The leg lamp he got me last year! It's the mini model. He said that he'll get me the full size next year. He also got me the CD so I can drive the wife up a wall by playing it in July. Anyway , back to the movie marathon.

Got the Nagant plus kit! 1943 model in excellent condition! Very cool relic, can't wait to take her out to the range and get those 7.62X54r rounds booming downrange. Merry Xmas all!

If this thread does inspire anybody to buy a Red Ryder BB gun, Walmart seems to be the cheapest at $29. Make sure you get the one with the METAL cocking lever. I bought one earlier this year (I can't shoot regular firearms on my property) and I have a little empty beer can shooting gallery in my back yard that I plinking at pretty much every day. I'm 5' 11" and 190 lbs and the RR shoulders just fine for me. For what it is, it is mighty accurate as well.

I got 300 rounds of 5.45 and 300 rounds of 9x19mm

I also got some parts and stuffs =) and a lot of survival equipment.

My GF, (now my wife) bought me a Red Ryder BB gun the first year we were dating. I take it out every Christmas, and shoot it!

I am proud to say that I am the owner of a brand new Red Rider Carbine. My wife got it for me as a gag but she was surprised how much I liked it. It is raining here in east Texas and have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I thought about raising the kitchen window and just set up over the sink and run through a box of 'ammo'. She might object.

Not quite a Red Ryder, but we bought my daughter a pink Crosman 760 Pumpmaster for Christmas. She was pretty excited, and since it was actually decent weather, we had a great time in the back yard plinking a bit.

She had asked for about a month for this gun, and we kept telling her she would shoot her eye out. Being 16, she looked at us like we were crazy every time we said it, and we would just smile. (She had never seen Christmas Story, until two days ago.)

My mom would never let me have a bb gun when I was a kid. I always eyeball the red ryder when I see it at wally world, just never bought one. If I told my daughter thats what I wanted I'd have it now. She asked me what I wanted and I told her a 22/45 Ruger .22. I knew neither my wife or daughter would buy a gun (they wouldn't know where to start) but I do plan to buy it for myself soon.

Christmas Eve my BIL and nephew were discussing the Red Ryder which was a theme of the movie they were watching. In seconds, I came back into the room with mine. I noticed in the movie, the kid loaded his and looked like he was pouring the bb's down parallel to the barrel while I have a "window" in the side of the outer barrel shroud.

Huey, the old guns had a tube under the barrel that would hold lot's of BBs. My new buck has the window that is much harder to load, but probably cheaper to produce. I assum that after a little use the windo will break out and we'll have a piece of duct tape to cover the hole.
I wish I knew where my old gun went? It would be 63 yrs old this Christmas.

I love watching A Christmas Story repeatedly on Christmas. It is a tradition in my house. I received a Henry Big Boy in .357 this year. Let's hope, I don't shoot my eye out. LOL

Also, I received a plastic keychain/ornament that looks like "the major award" and has button that when pressed plays a recording of the "fragile..." line.

Lastly, I have a question for those that are old enough to have the Red Ryder from the movie. What was "this thing that tells time"? I have never actually seen one with a little clock (or even a compass) in the stock. Pics would be awesome.

I got a Red Ryder as a kid, this year it was a Jap 25 in almost perfect condition with Chrysathunam? 'Flower' :D'

The "time" thing is a sundial.

Correct, and RR's didn't have them. That was a mix up with the writers and the prop dept. had to make one up for the film.It was the Buck Jones model that had the sundial and compass in the stock.

I received a Leg Lamp night light from my DIL this year and yes we had the Christmas Story marathon running in the background as we opened our presents.I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas.Happy New Year.tom.

ETA Daisy ran a limited edition of RRs a few years ago with both of those features but on the wrong side of the stock.IIRC.tom.

For over 63 yrs I have never once got what I asked for on Christmas day. This year after giving 4 grown kids, 13 grand kids, 2 great grand kids tons of cash and buying a 14k gold rope designed tennis bracelet with more carrots of diamond that would give Bugs Bunny a rush for the wife I went out and bought a Gamo WhisperDX airgun for myself. See if you wait long enough you get what you want (one way or the other)
