Redfield Revolution scopes

Seems like everyone likes their Revolution, and I like mine as well-for the most part.

I have a Redfield Revolution 4-12x32 on an older Savage (pre accu trigger) in 243. It gets the job done but it has some weaknesses.

Pros:

Clear in most lighting conditions you're apt to hunt in. Repeatable crosshair adjustment. (I can basically drawn a square with my rifle at 100 yrds by adjusting the the windage and elevation, and it always comes back to zero.) Durable and waterproof. I haven't drop tested it yet, but I have used it in light rain.

Cons:

The BDC reticle is inaccurate to the point of being useless. I have the reticle with the circle around the cross hair and the dot half way down the vertical hair. You're supposed to zero at 200 yrds and use the bottom of the circle as your 300 yard hold and the dot is supposed to be your 500 yrd hold. It doesn't work out that way. The dot is closer to the 300 yrd hold. I generally just aim high and let 'er rip, as I would do with traditional crosshairs. This has been the case for basic cup and core factory (both Winchester Powerpoint and Remington core-lokt), factory copper solids (Barnes TSX and TTSX as well as Federal with the Barnes bullet) and my own TSX handloads.

I wish the tube was longer to have more adjustment front to back on the rifle. y rifle is an old school long action gun, and my scope rings are up agains the objective lens bell and the eyepiece bell. It is not optimal for my eye relief, but it works.

Other than that, it has been a good scope. I may eventually replace it with a Vortext, but not in the next few years.

The Redfield products were always a budget scope, but they the better of the budget scopes. Far ahead of the crap Tasco and Bushnell are turning out for not much more money. I also have a pair of Redfield Rebel 10x42 field glasses, and they give good service as well, although, they'll be the next optic I replace.

Your rifle needs a pic rail. Problem solved

Well I popped my 3-9X 50mm Redfield Rev off my Steyr and tried so low Burris Zee rings.
Since the Freedom VX 3-9X on my AR yote rig was not zeroed, swapped it over and yet, it has better cheekweld on the Steyr.
Bolt clearance is fine (the Recknagel pic rail is a little taller than some bases).

So..........I need a 3-9X x40/42 mm for the Steyr.
Thought about putting the Freedom on it, and the Redfield Rev on my AR.

Hey it's a 50mm and that might come in handy shooting predators (the higher exit pupil).
The ring spacing of the Leupold AR mount is not adj and the bell of the 50mm objective makes for shorter tube length ahead of turret.
Think it might fit, but the rear ring would cover the power selection numbers on the tube.
Not that it matters that much, it's either on 3X or cranked to 9X LOL

and if the power was on the ring like a reg Leupold.......no prob.
But on the tube, and covered, while finctional........would annoy me no end.

So I need to buy a scope for the Steyr again, and one for my Ruger #1.
Using the Burris Signature Zee rings there's not a mark on the Redfield and I kept the orig packaging.
So I shouldn't lose my butt on it.

I have two Freedom VX, two VX1 and one M8. Looking to add an M8 8 or 10X AO to the #1 and a VX3i 3.5-10X for the Steyr.

The Freedom VX looks OK on my AR, but on the Steyr looked cheap.
I rather dislike the flat scope caps of the Freedom series.
Honestly, the Redfield Revs are better looking.
My main hangup on them is the redfield logo on turret body. It can be removed but leaves a recess.
The R on the objective bell comes off w Acetone. The red ones annoy, the silver (later ones) are tolerable.
I "cleaned up" a 2-7X when I had one on a Sav 99.

My wife has had a 2-7 revolution on her mountain rifle for years. We do a lot of hunting and hiking in tough terrain and she isn’t exactly kind to her rifle or scope. It has held zero and proved to be good glass over the years.

Coworker buying my 3-9X 50mm, LNIB.
Hell I had less than a box of rounds under it.
My loss, his gain.
Going w diff rings to get a 40mm to set lower.
