This weekend I have had a blast (literally and figuratively!) with my new Ruger 10/22 Carbine. I had forgotten how much fun it is to just plink away with a rimfire. Even the sub-20 degree weather couldn't keep me from smiling! :)

Originally I had plans for either a short bull-barrel conversion or a major rework into a light sporter. Both of those plans are out the door now, and I'm thinking a good William's peep sight and a sling setup and we're golden. Oh, I DID install an automatic bolt release about 10 minutes after I got it home. Only took two magazines to make me happy I did that right off! ;)

Seems with all of the time spent with the match AR-15, working with the TC Encore muzzleloader, working up magnum hunting loads for the .44 Magnums (rifle and pistol) and generally shooting things that either kicked me around or are supposed to shoot itty-bitty groups, I'd forgotten that sometimes it should just be fun and simple.

Now come on, fess up, I know I'm not the only one that has to remember to check the game face at the door sometimes.

Oh yeah, and anybody else considering a 10/22, just buy it already! :neener:

Edited: Now I'm on the lookout for a nice International model, just cause.

22lr is like candy.

The endorphine high has you reaching into that box for more until it's all gone.

Then you break out another box. :)

If my count is right, I have five 22LR handguns and seven 22LR rifles. It certainly isn't about saving money!

I was out in my back yard the other day with two boxes of Winchester Dynapoint, a 22LR AR15 rifle, red dot sight, 30 round mags and 25 yards out in the woods, an old computer that gave me a LOT of trouble. Ah, what stress relief.

My next two gun purchases will probably be a Smith & Wesson .22LR revolver, and a Walther G22 rifle.

When a box of 500rds costs less than $10, you just have to succumb. :)

Now that you mention it...

This weekend, we had our annual "see the accountant for to pay the piper" appointment. Wouldn't you know it... there's a nice indoor range not ten minutes from the CPA's office! I had the bag already packed, so when Mrs. Ceetee asked why we were making that particular turn, I just said, "Won't take but a minute, honey!"

The bag had in it eye and ear protection for two, 100 rounds of .40 flat nose, and just for kicks, I threw in my old Charter Arms AR-7 and a hundred CCI Mini Mags. As a long-time revolver shooter, she has never fired any kind of auto-pistol, and she's been promising that she'd try out my new 24/7 since I got it. (I want her to know how to operate it, for those "just in case" times.)

She didn't really care for the recoil of the .40, so I said, "Here, honey... try this." She had never even seen the AR-7 put together, but when I showed here out it worked, and let her run through a magazine, her eyes lit up!

"Ooooo..... I like this!"

I just let her go. From there on out I was the designated magazine loader. I did get a chance to show her how it's done, near the end of the box... You never know. I may get her up to the next Appleseed after all...

You can never have too many rimfire rifles, pistols, revolvers or bricks of ammo :D
I buy one brick every time I have to spend a substantial amount ($50) at Wally world.

Wanderin,

A month ago I had no 22 rifles. Right now, I have a Remington 597 on hand, and am waiting on a Marlin 60, and Glenfield 60 in shipement. So I'll have 3 total by mid-February. The 22 lr makes a lot of sense for me - as I do not hunt. My current club allows handgun, shotgun, and 22 rifle only. So that was an added incentive for me.

Have fun.

I keep a box of .22 Fed Lightening 550 round bulk handy, but not more'n 1 1/2 of 'em cause they don't really keep for long periods that well. I shoot 'em up before they go bad this way. :D

Let's see...

Remington M597 magnum (it's a 22 rimfire on steroids)
Remington M512X - gotta be one of the most accurate cheap rifles ever made
Ruger 10/22
Mossberg M152
Charter AR7 Rifle
Charter Explorer 2 pistol
Erma LA22 (luger look alike)
Ramline Exactor pistol
Rossi M511 Sportsman revolver
Phoenix HP22, 3 and 5" barrels
TC Contender 10" .22LR with 2x scope
NAA .22 mini revolver

I think that's all of 'em. Nothing expensive there, but all fun to play with and some of 'em are amazingly accurate.

Well, convenience certainly seems to be a factor. No sitting down at the press for an hour or two to make a good range trip. Just drop a $20 at the LGS or W-M and I've got enough ammo to keep me entertained for a while (and then some).

Also, I can shoot the rimfire on the 25 yard pistol range with no questions and no reservations. I like that. One box (bucket) of ammo will keep a 10/22 and a 22/45 busy for an afternoon. Anybody can handle the rimfire without discomfort. The report is reduced from centerfire ammo, so they make great "camp" guns too.

The thing I cannot understand is why somebody would show up with a semi-auto .22 and one box of 50 rounds. What are ya plannin' on doing after the first 5 minutes?

Unfortunately, I may get into a nice competition-type rifle eventually. There is a temptation to one-hole 10-shot 50 yard groups. I've worked with a Walther KK-100 before and know what there is to be had! ;)

Edited: Anybody know where to get Ruger 10-round factory mags cheap?
