This weekend I have had a blast (literally and figuratively!) with my new Ruger 10/22 Carbine. I had forgotten how much fun it is to just plink away with a rimfire. Even the sub-20 degree weather couldn't keep me from smiling!
Originally I had plans for either a short bull-barrel conversion or a major rework into a light sporter. Both of those plans are out the door now, and I'm thinking a good William's peep sight and a sling setup and we're golden. Oh, I DID install an automatic bolt release about 10 minutes after I got it home. Only took two magazines to make me happy I did that right off!
Seems with all of the time spent with the match AR-15, working with the TC Encore muzzleloader, working up magnum hunting loads for the .44 Magnums (rifle and pistol) and generally shooting things that either kicked me around or are supposed to shoot itty-bitty groups, I'd forgotten that sometimes it should just be fun and simple.
Now come on, fess up, I know I'm not the only one that has to remember to check the game face at the door sometimes.
Oh yeah, and anybody else considering a 10/22, just buy it already!
Edited: Now I'm on the lookout for a nice International model, just cause.
