I have a Savage 10ML that uses smokless powder. All I can find are hunting loads. I would like to have a reduced load of smokless powder that would produce velocities in the 1000/1200 fps. It is such an odd duck that I do not know exactly where to ask this question.

50 cal right? What are you looking to do with it? Plinking load, load for a newbe? Need it to accurate to what distance? What have you been shooting?

330gr gr sabot 70gr of ffg or perodex rs with get you around 1200fps or atleast it does in a older 24" barrel cva

Just take AA5744 or whatever you're shooting and keep on backing off until you get the velocity you want. Probably around 30grains with a 250gr bullet. Since there's no powder chamber on an MZ, you don't have to worry about detonation.

This place will have all you ever need to know about smokeless muzzleloading:

Smokeless ML

The key to the question is the use of smokeless powder. I was hoping to get a load with 4895. It is safe to use at 40% reduction. Some of the other powders are not safe at reduced levels. It will be for plinking under 100 yards. I would call it a "can busting" load. Thanks to all for your help.

You might take a look at TrailBoss, but I'd recommend calling Hodgdons before actually using it. Remember, with a ML you're going to compress the powder when seating the ball. I personally have no idea how various smokeless powders react to compression, so that's why I say call Hodgdons first.

You're making this way more complex than it needs to be. For reduced loads, you shouldn't be looking at a slower burning powder like 4895. You'll never build enough pressure at the speed you want for consistent ignition. Maybe in hot weather, but the first cold morning you try that... pffffft.

Take one of the three book loads... N110, SR4749, or AA5744. And just back off until you get down to the velocity you want.

4895 might be ok with a duplex if you were wanting to push a 300gr bullet really fast, but has no purpose for reduced loads.
