jimmyraythomason says,
I refuse to live a life of fear.

So do most of the rest of us. But apparently you equate our insisting on our rights with "living a life of fear."

Should we construe that as misreading us or insulting us?

Alright this is getting rediculous! I do not have to be armed everywhere I go to feel safe. If you do fine. I am not afraid to go into my bank unarmed. I go there several times a week often carring a fair amount of cash. I was treasurer for my church for 15 years. In that time I never felt compelled to carry when making a deposit. IF YOU DO FINE! SATISFY YOURSELF!

Sounds good..until you realize that they ALL deny you the ability to carry inside their business.

Well, the proof will be in the pudding, but I'm betting that he will be able to find another bank that doesn't have insane gun free zone rules. I see that you live in Alabama. Maybe you should look around at a few banks where you live and see what their policies are.

It seems to me that this is the greater violation of rights since it is done by our own government which is specifically forbidden by the BOR to do!.

You're right. There are a lot of places that the fed govt bans guns that is a violation of our rights. The post office, public school zones, public and insecure areas of federal buildings, etc. And, we are fighting to change that. It was only a few years ago where you couldn't carry in national parks, and that has been restored. So, we're getting there. But you are absolutely right - why can't I carry in the public area of a post office, where I need to mail things and buy stamps? What's worse is that it is a govt protected monopoly so there's no option to take my business to their competition.

What makes you think I haven't?

Fair enough, if there are no banks close to you that allow their customers to carry, sorry. But having lived in Alabama, I did not find this to be a problem at all. Generally the smaller banks tend to be run by folks with some semblance of common sense in Alabama.

That is very true. I am on a first name basis whith everyone at my bank. They always ask about my grandbabies, how I'm healling from my heart surgery or how church service was on Sunday. They still have a "no firearms" sign on the door.

Try asking them about it some time and pointing out that it only keeps honest folks from defending themselves. Sometimes they just haven't thought about it yet and they might reconsider. It's worth a try, if you are up for it.

Not much of a comment here other than I'm glad I do not live in Tenn or Ala. and
do not have to contend with ridiculous rules and laws such as this. Other than on a federal & state level of course.

I seriously doubt if I decided to CCW in my bank that (1) anyone would know it and (2) anyone would say anything if it was discovered(as long as I didn't pull it).

Fortunately in MO there isn't a criminal penalty for ignoring the (prescribed, yes they have a spec'd out signage) sign on the door, you can be asked to leave and if an officer is summoned, cited for trespassing. That's it. KS however is an E felony for ignoring the private property's right to bar firearms.

Jimmy, this isn't an attack. This is FACTS. I'm from a one-horse town that has two banks. Growing up, I never felt really afraid of any part of town, even the bad. There was a deranged vet, about 70-ish, that lost his mind and walked into the bank that I worked at. I wasn't at work that day, but my step-mom was and, by the grace of God, he saw his land-lord and turned around in the entry-way. He RODE HIS BIKE to the other bank, two blocks over, and tried to rob the bank by writing a note and sending a customer in with it??? The cops spotted him after being called over A BLOCK AWAY and he ran. He had an AR15, shotgun, and I believe two handguns and ammo. This is in a town of 4,000 were everyone knew everyone. There was a firefight and he shot one of our officers and they killed him near the post office. You may not feel the need, but man, protect yourself, even when you don't. You NEVER KNOW. We don't need any more dead good guys :(

Then why not safeguard yourself to protect you and your loved ones? I do not live in fear but carry 99% of the time. This is America and you can choose as you please, but I'm having problems understanding if you know there are nuts out there, why not protect yourself?

F@#$ Regions. I canceled my account after they charged me $100s in overdrafts because they held my PAYCHECK till Monday. I deposited the check before noon that friday and they tried saying it was after 3. I paid no fees, droped my account, and will never go back. This is just another example of Regions GREED.

There was a deranged vet

Yeah,those are everywhere.
You know that was sarcasm, right? Why is everyone trying to make this about me? I don't understand why everyone is trying so hard to convince me that I should be in constant fear for my well being?

FWIW,I left Regions long ago. Well actually they left me. It was when they were First Alabama Bank. I maintained a checking account for bank drafted life insurance. They dropped me for lack of activity.

Yes, but sarcasm is lost many times when the means to convey emotion are taken away, especially between strangers. It's about you because you have accepted that criminals will never go in your bank and you are 100% safe. I DON'T want you to live in fear, but if you aren't well protected and are not in fear, then you are, in my mind, ready to go. I am ready whenever it's my time, but I hope it won't be at the hand of a low-life. You and I are two different people with two different ideologies, and rarely do people change their core beliefs. I bid you well and hope you never need it and not have it. Good evening.

go ye forth and sin no more !

Well shame on you, jimmyray, face it you are guilty of violating the First Commandment of Gun Forum Land
"Thou Shalt Do as I Do"
similar in many respects to the First Commandment of Sarah,
"Thou Shalt Not Do as I Do Not"

For your penance, say three Our Father's, count every primer in your reloading supplies four times, and send a serious monetary contribution to the needy tactical trainer of your choice. Firmly resolve to mend your ways, and live a more fearful life (and keep an eye out for old Grizz, he be real sneaky).

No, I don't like places being posted either. Every time I see one posted, I make a decision. I either walk away (with or without my gun), or walk on in (without). There a lot of places I don't wear a gun, posted or not, including the white throne room in my own house (which, trust me, is not posted, though it mebbe oughta' be). But some here do, their choice, their throne, gotta' respect that. If it's your time to go, well... at least do it on your own terms.

"You're immune to being robbed on the way to or from the bank ?"
hmmm... No, I do most of my banking at the drive-thru, revolver within easy reach, or I walk up to the outside ATM, pistol tucked under shirt, IWB. If I do walk into the bank, I leave gun locked in vehicle. I don't even know if the front door is posted or not, because I don't really care. I ain't going to open fire inside the bank nohow. (same as the cashiers inside the bank would not do, even if there is a gun under the counter, leastways if they have half a brain)
If they rob me at gunpoint on the sidewalk to the front door, I hand over my money, and cooperate with responding officers after.
I don't carry enough hard cash on me to buy a full case of 22 rimfire nohow; not notably fond of plastic guns, but real fond of plastic money. If the sidewalk robbers get to be a real serious nuisance, I might just have to do all my banking on-line.
Only bleeding I ever did inside a bank was after signing a piece of paper that gave me a permanent nose bleed for 20 years, no cash transfer involved. Bankers have been robbing me all my life, but not one of 'em ever used a 9mm.

ND at a Gun show, would I follow up somebody's ND with a DT ?
Nope, it just don't strike me as a real smart idea.
Left mine checked and zip tied with the cop at the door anyway, just like they politely asked me to, no law required.

Local courthouse, they have 'judicial proceedings" in progress all day, every day. I guess that's why they call it a "courthouse', heckifiknow. I mostly go in there only to renew my CCW permit (only place here you can do that). I check my gun with the cop at the door, 'cause they get a tad peevish if you set off the walk-thru scanner with a gun.

PS
do sometimes make you wonder just how many of our brethren here, if robbed inside a crowded bank, or gun show, or Post office, really would go into their John Wesley Hardin routine.
stay out of New York
stay out of Vermont
stay out of the courthouse
stay out of the bank
stay out of the Post Office
(well, the post office is probably ok, they mostly only kill their own)

ok, ok, I confess... I will carry into wallyworld, to pick up some ammo
it ain't about the store, though, it's the parking lot

“while someone steps on your constitutional right to bear arms.”

At the time the Founding Fathers wisely added the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights, I’m not convinced that they envisioned the private/public property debacle we now have. Nor do I believe that they envisioned so many folks would feel the need to be armed everywhere they went.

As much as I enjoy and do my best to support the shooting sports, if I were a business owner I would prohibit firearms on the property I was in control of. Too many attorneys out there just looking for the chance to become involved in a little greenmail.:cuss::banghead:
