Rem 700 257 Roberts. Mountain or classic or other?

That looks like a 700 Mountain rifle I had in the 1990's. They also made a Model 7 that was similar.

Cdl released in 03 or 04. I have a cdl I bought new in 7mm ultra pretty soon after they released. I believe all were machine engraved but I could be wrong. All mine are. Ive had this 257 Roberts for 25 years so no way that's it.

Is definitely a 700. Says so on it. But that's pretty much all it says. Taper appears to be mountain taper. BUT I thought all mountains were drilled for sights and this one isn't . Maybe I'm wrong.

That is a Mountain rifle. The barrel on the sporters will be around .670". Could vary slightly depending on several factors, but .560 is the skinny Mountain rifle.

The CDL has a similar stock configuration but is a little thicker. But not as thick and chunky as the standard BDL or ADL. The Classic is just as chunky, but with no cheek piece or forend tip.

The model 7 is an even smaller action than a short action 700, but the loading/ejection port is larger. The receiver rings are smaller.

Model 700 Mountain Rifle.

Is it for sale?

Not particularly but it Probably should be. Was my first rifle in high school. Paid 400 for it in 98 or so and sold the nice scope for more than I paid just to buy ammo. Lol . I drug it out for my girl last year. The rest of my guns were just too much kick to be comfortable. Id been told it was mountain rifle and I suspected. But ive been told it was several others. I thought by the taper it was a mountain rifle.

What would be the value of it though. That was the actual point of the thread. For itemized value. Lol. Hard to itemize when you have no clue what it is. It's on good shape but hunted with. I can't see any in complete auctions on gunbroker

I'd probably give you $800 for just the rifle as long as everything looked good in person.

I am pretty sure that mine did not have sights. I don't recall it being drilled and tapped for them either.

I have a Remington M700 Classic in .257 Roberts. That is not a Classic model. The Classic does not have the ebony piece on the forend and has a 24 inch barrel.

I believe it's the mountain version. The taper matches what is listed a mountain (560) and it's 22 inch.

It's just confusing when the "experts" disagree. They get me second guessing myself. And since it was bought years ago with no box or anything, I have no proof.

Makes a great light rifle for my 13 year old girl though. She likes it better than the Weatherby youth 243 I got her.
