I have the grand daddy to the 799. A Interarms MKV Mini-Mauser in 7.62x39 with a Leupold VX-1 3-9x50 on it and love it. Shoots amazing groups with handloads!!!
i have a 799 but its in 223. after stoning the cockingpiece & sear to get rid of the grity trigger then deburing the bolt shroud it worked fine.
i wish i would have bought a few more of them for project rifles when bas pro had them on sale for $385
although remington is no longer importing them there are still plenty of them on gunbroker.
i'm going to pick up another one in 22 hornet for a project rifle
I purchased a Interarms Mini Mauser in 7.62x39 also. Mounted a Bushnell 3200 Elite scope on it and it is one of those rifle which just feels right to handle and carry. Light with decent power. The Remington 799 is the same gun with a different stock. The tiny action is just "way cool". The trigger took some work but it only cost about $25 to $35 greenbacks to have a gunsmith smooth it out. Even with the rise in ammo prices it is still about the cheapest thing to shoot absent resorting to a 22 or handloading.
