If you need a shotgun on your boat, that's the one to get. Otherwise an 870 with a conventional parkerized finish will do fine for landlubber duty, and likely be less expensive too.

Well... I went ahead and purchased the Marine 870.
I thought the nickel finish looked bad ass and I live close to the beach.

I plan on putting some goast rings on it in the future.
Why are guns so addicting? I told myself only one this year and I ended up with a P226R, Les BAER TRS, & now the 870. Since I live in CA, I am limited in rifle options. I may have to build an AR:D

I wish it had choke tubes instead of a fixed cyl choke. It's a *really* short range weapon. Poster board at 50yds using 00buck and you're lucky to get a single hit on the board.

The nickel finish makes it pretty rust resistant.

If the heavy-duty finish isn't really necessary then you might be better off just getting a parkerized Police model.

It might have Marine on the thing...

They don't float. Nope, nada, trust me on this...I checked it twice in one day, nope.

Testing later on again confirmed.

BA/UU/R

That is what I was doing. One of these I run 200 buckshot in one day to determine loads it preferred and then reliablity testing of loads. Best recall that gun was run 2k rounds in the first week it was brought home.

Bone stock, always worked, still does, still doing what is was bought for.
A serious tool for a saltwater / wet exposures.
Fellow that owns that one used to shoot like 30k rds of 12 ga alone - in a year.

Folks I hang /hung with are shooters. You can give many of these types a stick and they will fell what they see and point at.

Another person

One Marine Shotgun losts it bead , been about 12 , 15 years ago. Still not been replaced, and most likely won't.

Shooter has run 200 straight shooting skeet with it, taken deer with it using slugs, and can put 4 slugs into a 4" target at 20 yds so fast you would swear the gun was a semi-auto.

Lady ...yeah a lady 5' if she gets on tippy toes, and over the years a bit more weight , probably a 120 # now.

"You were right, darn things don't float" She said to me.

We also tested by tossing sand into these, shooting and then rinsing out with water...

Hers is still bone stock, bead missing, if she see it, she will fell it.

Love 'em so much I bought two.:)

With a bottle each of castrol syntec motor oil/gear oil, and
a little castrol high pressure grease for the slides, they rack like
lightning and cycle with smooth authority.

Dammmm Those two Nickel Pumps look beautiful:D
Are you going to add sights, or are they not necessary?

I feel like I just looked at porn:rolleyes:

I cant wait to pick mine up.

Skunk>Are you going to add sights, or are they not necessary?

Just painted the ramp/bead with a little neon yellow gloss paint to aid
lower light aiming, gtg.

I always thought it would be fun and wasteful for someone to Robard/Duracoat a marine magnum. If I had that, I might leave it exposed in the bed of my truck during winter.;)

As a fugitive recovery agent, I keep my shotgun in my trunk at all times. My standard 870 Express rusted like a mofo just being in the trunk during a winter. Took about a week. So I bought the Marine Magnum, had it back there forever and not a spot.

Well, once I opened my trunk to find my Marine Magnum had a long green stripe on it. I just friction-rubbed it off and it looks brand spanking new again. And I've shot the living daylights out of it and she still looks like I just brought her home. If you don't mind having a non-black shotty then a Marine Magnum is the best here is.

It makes a fine SHTF shotgun too, as the 870 pump won't jam or break and the electroless nickel finish will ensure it stays function in ANY environment.

When I gave my 870 away I replaced with it with a Marine Magnum. That nickle plated finish is very nice. The only thing I did not like was that the bead is nickled also. Godd so it does not rust, but not so good for sighting. Not that big of an issue with a shotgun, but I put orange sight paint on it anyway.

You could almost get two Expresses for the cost of a Marine, but if you can afford it they are really nice. Now twins... ;)

If you live in the California People's Republic, then you are honor bound to obey the "one-gun-a-month" law. Once I explained to my wife that I was was just trying to be a good law-abiding citizen and comply with the law, she understood. Now my problem is deciding which gun to buy each month. :banghead:

CaCrusin

gak, nice pair you've got there. Most people just change shells, not shotguns when going from buck to slug...

I've had my 870MM for almost 15 years now, aside from some polishing where the metal slides around and a permanent scorch mark on the extended tube underneath the barrel, it is still pristine.
