Here is my brand new 870 Police from RemArms:

5-E939-CEB-B7-D4-4963-B0-CE-3-A57-FAC99-C49.jpg

It has an RSA serial number and the new drilled and tapped receiver, both indicative of RemArms new production. I have already affixed a velcro shell carriage and single point sling.

Fit and finish are fantastic. The inside of the receiver is extremely smooth, much smoother than the Remington made 870 Police I bought new in 2017. This gun features the metal trigger guard and internal enhancements such as the milled steel extractor and increased power springs just how they should be on the venerable Police model.

The trigger is crisp and the slide works very smoothly, There is not a single factory blemish anywhere on or inside the gun. Overall workmanship is a cut above any 870 I’ve seen or handled in years. Every part is well machined. The chamber is well burnished and smooth.

It seems the crew at Ilion are putting out some solid products. This example will see a few more enhancements and will serve as a home defender once reliability is proven at the range. Stay tuned for a range report.

One conclusion that I have come to after couple hundred rounds is that synthetic forearm is slippery. With that ribbing going around you wouldn’t think is any issue. But too slippery for me.
But that is the most negative critique I can come up with at the moment on my RemArms 870.

keep us updated once you start running it hard.

I’ve got something special coming to fix that. More to come.

Great testimony from one who almost swore off the platform, with good reason, not long ago. Now,I’ll need to add the latest to my 1955, 1970, 1975, 1980 and two indeterminate but early expresses. Thanks for the review.

I looked on the web site, and don't see a Police gun listed, just the standard tactical models.???

Is it stamped 870P on the reciever or does it actually say police on it. Metal trigger guard and increased power springs sounds like a police model to me. Are they offering the same model with a plain bead as well?

Clicking on the "LE/DEFENSE" at the top of the main page, takes you here...

LE / DEFENSE | Remington (remarms.com)

Scrolling on the header pic will show the two LE models.

I've got an LGS that has a couple of the Police models in stock...for $699. I picked up a mid-90's vintage 870P a few months ago in good shape for $369. For the price difference, I'll keep looking for another used one.

Reads like they'll only sell to LE and retired military or other types.
The old Remington was unclear about this and you had to order from a Remington LE Distributor since standard Remington commercial distributors didn't handle the LE lines.
But, you could buy a Police 870 if you made the effort.
I would hope this would still be the case.

On the bright side, I told people that the Police 870 was just too popular with LE for it not to be made available again.
Mossberg, Beneli, and carbines not witstanding, THE LE long gun is still the 870 and it's in most police cars.

It says “Police Magnum” and has all the proper Police model features. Metal trigger group, milled steel extractor, the works.

So here it is all kitted out:

I put on some XS Big Dot tritium night sights, a Surefire forend, SOE single point sling, velcro shell carrier, and Hogue 12” LOP stock.

Handles beautifully. I plan to post a full review this weekend.

Nice score! Pleased to hear the good report. I haven't bought a Remington shotgun since the 1990s because I had doubts. Slap on an extended magazine if you're so inclined, and you're done! But looks great as is.

I’m going to keep the standard tube. I’ve got rotator cup issues so want to keep weight off the muzzle, and frankly the balance and handling is a lot better with no extension. Plus it’s a bit more durable not that it matters much.

Plenty of cops still rocking and rolling with factory 4 round tubes on their 870s. I think from all the data I’ve seen and some personal experience as well as techniques to top off and single load the chamber 4+1 will do the job just fine.

They aren’t made in Ilion, any more!

LaGrange, Georgia!
New equipment/machinery, new employees…

Could be some are still being built there….
I was under impression that everything had been relocated to Georgia.

I have been mounting the shotgun off and on and holding it etc.

It is so nice. So handy. The Hogue stock is comfy and nice and short. I also got to test the XS night sights and they are fast and bright. The Surefire light is incredible as well. Can’t wait to shoot this shotgun this afternoon. Will report back.

I ordered a 12” LOP Hogue stock for mine when I first got it . I am not a big man , but it was too short for me . I went with a 13” LOP .

I bought the 870 Tactical with the factory 6 shot extended tube so you don't end up with the wekpoint of screwing an extension on the end of the old magazine cap threads.

- This originally had the Choate pistol grip stock from the factory. That was removed in seconds!!
- Replaced with the OEM Remington 12ga Youth synthetic stock & pad from Numerich.
- I like the shoter stock of the youth model for a HD/SD shotgun.
- installed Grovtec push button bases (limited rotation) into buttstock. I did use 9/16 jab nuts inside the stock to loctite and mechanically lock the inserts into the stock.
- Grotec magazine cap with push button QD swivel up front
- CDM Roc12L light mount.
- Streamlight Poly-Tac light.
- Volquartsen tool steel extractor.
- LH oversized safety button
- Aluminum mag follower.
- Magpul RLS sling.
- Still waiting on the Mesa Tactical shell carrier (backordered)

Been playing with this sling setup. Not 100% confident yet that it will stay this way. Need to run/gun a little more before I make a decision. But the RemArm's base 870 has been solid so far for several hundred rounds that I run hard. I don't baby this thing. Between live rounds and dummy rounds i've probably run 500-600 through it now.

Cool thing I found after mounting this light and playing with it last week after dark, is that the cone of light jsut illuminates the existing factory front bead if I so xhose to look for it. But I shoot this thing like a true shotgun. Meaning, eyes on target pull it up and fire without sights.
I'm coming up with a game plan for the forearm. It is slippery like it is even with the old corn cobb style ribbing without my hand being wet or nothing. I'm also left handed and when I combat load I throw a round into the ride side ejection port and normally knife hand the slide forward. But this forearm is also thinner than a standard 870 forearm and more rounded. So I can't get a good bite on the back edge to use the knife hand effectively all the time. So I'm probably going to swap out for the Magpul forearm eventually. Or maybe just put the back of this forearm on a belt sander to make it a sharper edge.

with a shotgun I like simple setups. And no optics or special sights.
