Remington .22 ammo

Buddy of mine got a 10/22 recently and some Remington ammo with it ( used gun). We started shooting to let him get the feel for the gun, and immediately he started getting duds. Maybe 3-4 in the first 100. I had my chrono out, so we shot a few rounds through the chrono. Velocities were all over the place. Compared Federals and they were within 50 fps consistently. He threw the Remington in the trash barrel and finished up with the Federal. We also tried a few Mini Mags and they were great too.

Personally I won't buy Remington .22 any more. Winchester, CCI, or Federal are OK.

I have a couple of modified 10/22s that love the stuff. On the other hand they hate any Federal ammo. Poor groups, lots of misfires, and some stove pipes. Have a Savage Mark II that does pretty good with it but not as well as with Win. dynapoints and T-22. It doesn't like Federal either. Poor accuracy and an occasional dud.

It's just that .22 thing. They are independent little critters when it comes to what they like in ammo.
+1 on that. Federal bulk ammo is just as bad as that golden bullet JUNK.

IMHO, 'some' folks have issues with Remington ammo but lots more simply repeat what they've heard. This is the internet and bad news spreads like wildfire. Not questioning anyone here, just speaking in general.

I use 2000-3000rds of Remington GB's a month on average. Everything from revolvers to automatics, boltguns and levers. Two dozen rimfires, if I remember right. If they didn't work and produce results as pictured, I would buy something else.

Five consecutive five-shot groups at 50yds through a CZ 452FS wearing a Leupold 1-4x in Burris rings. Average is a hair under a half inch. Smallest is 0.25". Wolf MT cuts the average to 0.40"@50yds with the smallest to date being 0.20". So not a huge difference between Remington at $18/550 and Wolf MT at $6/50.

I've had more ammo failures with Remington golden bullets than all other 22LR ammo combined. I'll never touch the stuff.

I used to swear by the Remington GB, my Marlin HB bolt loved it the best of a dozen or more ammo tests. About 2-3 years ago the quality seemed to go to heck. I had two or three bricks with a horribly high rate of duds (more than 1 in 20). Even some more recent purchases still have a high rate (1 in 50). They will usually fire on a second try if that matters. My Spikes AR conversion doesn't chamber the Rem GB, so I've been using Federal bulk more and more...it is cleaner and way more consistent.

I have run roughly 2000 of them through our 22's in the last year and a half. They work fine. But truthfully, i get better accuracy from the winchester 333 or 555.

Remmington uses the dirtiest powder I've ever seen. My MKII won't fire the stuff worth a darn, and after a couple boxes, I actually had to take a dental pic to it to bust the crud out of the bolt relief area.

I read this post a few days ago and though you guys were crazy. I had never had a 22 dud in all my shooting. I had never used Remi gold bullet, but had used just about everything else (CCI, Blazer, Winch, Thurderbolt, etc.)

A buddy of mine came over to shoot tonight and brought a box of Remington Gold Bullets. We had 5 duds in <100 rounds.

I will stick to "everything else."

My wife's Mosquito & my 10/22 like the Golden Bullet bulk just fine. We do get the odd dud from time to time.

Federal bulk turns the Mozzie into a single shot.
