Took a brand new Rem 597 .22LR out this morning for a first run.
Ammo was Federal 40gr Hi Velocity solid.
All I did prior to use was run a couple patches thru the barrel. Crud was present inside....
I took 200 rounds along but only got through around 60. This thing is a JAMM-O-MATIC. Practically every other round failure to extract or failure to feed. Several clicks with no bang. At 50 yards I managed a couple silver dollar + sized groups with the iron sights, but the frequency of no fire / clearing made the 10 shot mag good for only around 4 or 5. Tried under loading the mag (it's a metal one and not plastic) to 5, 6 and 7 rounds, made no difference. Now I'm really mad.
Flustrated I set it aside and pulled out ole reliable AK and GP100 to vent on unsuspecting coffee cans. Ahhh, the joys of things that work like they are supposed to.
So..... Thinking back to the crud in the barrel... Brand new, never been fired... I'm gonna tear this 597 thing down to tiny parts and give it a motherful scrubbing. Gonna take it back out all cleaned and reassembled for a refire. If it still sux a$$ then the next trip will be to the gun/pawn shop to try and recoop some of my wasted money.
