Got to handle these 2 beauties the other day, nice carbines. Quick to the shoulder and slick actions. The stock dimensions are real comfortable for shooting off hand.

Remington and other companies should stop being cheap and producing junk and go back to quality goods.

Top is a 600 in .350 Remington Magnum
Bottom is a 660 in .308 Winchester (this one is accurate!)

I want one!

They were ahead of their time. They were aimed at woods hunting at a time that lever actions and pumps ruled the woods. Too light and short for long range hunting when the .264 Win, 25-06 and 7MM Rem Mag were the hot cartridges. Remington made a modern copy of them in the 673 Guide rifle and they were a flop.http://www.remington.com/products/archived/centerfire/bolt-action/model-673-guide-rifle.aspx Now all of them are collectors rifle. Wish I grabbed a 660 back when they were 119.00 bucks. But I was only 11. They were discontimued in 1971 but I got a .223/788 when i turned 14.

Life is indeed odd. When those were new every one panned them, called them junk. Too short, too much recoil ( mine was in in .308 and yes the recoil and blast was indeed heavy ), now the comments are " Remington should go back to builitng quality like this" :D By the way there was a recall on the 600, on some of the rifles, taking off the safety , the rifle would fire { and this is not myth, mine killed a pine tree, scared the hell out of me, the rifle also killed a couple of hunters }.

Why does Remington have so many problems with their rifle triggers? past and current?

i love those rifles and see a few of them at gun shows. i would own one already but they ask crazy prices for them. i never see them in lgs or from any of my buddys.ill stick with my model 7

Here are my Mohawks. Top is 223 with a Aetec scope, bottom is a 243 which now also has an Aetec on top of it
I searched hi & low for the Mohawk-243. I'd find them for $700 on up. Sorry aint paying that. After about 5 years of being patient, one popped up for sale last fall, about 60 miles north of me, for $400.00. I jumped on it

edit// I built this 8mm Mauser as a kind of cast off to the Mohawks.

Have a 600 Mohawk in .243 my dad bought me back around '74. I killed a lot of deer and groundhogs with it. I also experienced one of those Remington-special moments where the gun discharges when one snaps off the safety. I wouldn't part with it, but I also don't trust it. I haven't fired it since back in the mid 90's.

I've got a 660 in 6.5 Remington Magnum. It's alright, but loading for a belted case isn't my favorite chore and I feel like I'm not getting everything out of the cartridge that it could be doing, as the barrel is short. The muzzle blast is pretty obnoxious too.

On the other hand, it's a quick pointing rifle, plenty accurate and I definitely don't feel undergunned for anything around here.

My 600 was in great demand borrow wise at the PD because of it's notoriety for taking a deer by even our least experienced officer. That rifle (308) with it's plastic rib and short blustery barrel went (And still does ) on most of my trips while the pre-64 Winchesters were at home. It is short, ugly, easy to carry and accurate and I Love it ! A pristine 600 is in great demand even today for many of the reasons I cited.

Plastic ribs(on a rifle,no less),plastic bottom metal? Bolt handle that looks more like a dog's hind leg? Not the most visually appealing rifles,at least to me.A squared off stock and a rather hideous attempt at using a laminated stock just doesn't cut it with me.A poor sales record tells me I am not alone in my dislike for this rifle. However, every one I have shot has shown great accuracy, and the short length works very well in a tree stand or heavy cover. It might be the hole in the floorboard of my pickup that was the final straw for me and these rifles. If you have one, send it back to Remington and get the trigger fixed!

They were a neat concept, but the .350 Mag couldn't reach anywhere near its potential in the short barrel. Recoil was severe, and the buying public wasn't ready for a rifle with a bunch of plastic parts and a laminate stock with pressed checkering.

How do these in 350 Rem compare to a Marlin 1895 in 45-70?
