Hello gents, I just bought a r700 classic in 7mm. I have a vx-ii I am wishing to mount on it, but I need new rings and it looks like I am going to need extention rings. I was looking at the Talleys, but I'm not sure if they will work. I just want a decent set of rings that won't break thE bank. Thanks again.

The Talley Light Weights should work fine. The only time I have had to use extention rings was with a long action and very short compact scope.I think you can also reverse the Light Weights for more range.

I think the Light Weights are more versatile than the two piece Talley mounts.

It has either a weaver or picatinny 2 piece already installed, I just didn't know if it would be a wise decision to get a new base oe not. I liked Talleys 2 piece but I'm just not sure which way to go. I just want a solid hunting rig.

My suggestion, since you already have Weaver bases installed:
Get a good pair of rings. Low Warne Maximas or medium Burris Zees.
Then, if you can't get the scope set up where you want it, replace the bases with Burris XT bases.

Rem 700 rings

I have a long action Rem 700 with Talley ring/bases and a Leupold BR-D scope and another with Leupold rings and Leupold Bases and a VX-III in 3x9x40. I don't see why you would need extension rings on a 7mm mag. I think the long action receiver is the same as my .280 or 6.5x55.

I have used them all over the last 40 years. I'll use nothing but Talley Lightweights or the DNZ's now. No reason to complicate life with mounts that have lots of complex pieces, weight and expense.

The Talley's are very slightly lighter 2.5 oz vs 3 oz., but I think they look a little nicer. The DNZ mounts have a reputation for being a little more rugged, but both are fine.

Thanks for all the help guys. I also am going with the talleys. If it is good enough for the guys at gunwerks, it is definitely good for me. I am also building a 700p with a Mark IV. I was gonna go all out with the badgers but im gonna see what the talleys do first.
