Remington 700 What Model?

Im interested in getting a Remmington 700, but I dont know what model to get. I dont need a fancy model but I would like it to have iron sights as well as the ability to have a scope. I was thinking the ADL model but I would have to buy it used i guess. What is the least expensive 700 that can be bought new? Thanks.

The SPS is the least expensive 700 out there new. My gun safes contain somewhere between 50-60 firearms and all but 3-4 were bought used and that is the route I would take. With careful shopping and a little bargaining you can get a lot more gun for the money. Very few people shoot a centerfire enough to wear them out and I actually like to see a few character marks on an older gun. If you don't like it you can usually sell it for almost as much as you paid. If you buy new and try to sell you will lose at least 30%.

If you find something you like used, the time to buy is now. Actually anytime between Christmas and August is a good time to buy used because dealers will discount used guns more rather than sit on them until deer season starts.

It seems like you are asking us what your personal preference is. The hard part is figuring out which manufacturer/model you want. You did that, now you just have to pick which one. My suggestion is to decide if you want blued or stainless, then decide if you want wood or synthetic. After that, just hit up the gun shops/stores and see if they are selling what you are buying.

I think I'd pass on the new Remingtons and try the gun shows for an older ADL or BDL.
