Remington 870 barrel help

I have a old 870 wingmaster probley 25 to 30 years old.I am looking for a 18 inch barrel or any barrel I could cut down.
What I'm asking does a current 870 barrel fit my gun ?
I want to use my gun as a HD gun and be able to put my 28 inch barrel on to bird hunt.

The 18.5" Bead Sight factory Parkerized Police barrel in I/C choke cost $101 from Remington. You can't beat that.

You buy some old barrel, you don't know what you are getting. Then you cut it down and have no choke. You then have to install a front sight. Why do all this mess when the same OEM barrel that comes standard on the 870 Police only cost $101.

Mossberg makes barrels for the 870. I recall the prices were less than Remington's.

after looking around I can get a 20 inch police barrel, a choke tube extender and new forarm and a pistol grip and shell holder for around 200 bucks.

I could buy a 88 maverick for around 200 bucks,second option and just leave my wingmaster original.I would than have 2 shotguns if needed.

yes, Remington makes the 18.5" bead sight I/C in high luster blue, it is part # 242252.

Why do all this mess when the same OEM barrel that comes standard on the 870 Police only cost $101.

I've cut down several. If you cut on the vent rib you have the option if having a 23", 21", or 19" barrel. It is a 5 minute job with a hacksaw, and file to get everything squared up. I used a fiber optic sight on the front and rear. I always cut at the 21" post first in case I mess up I'll have some barrel to work with for a 2nd try.

The end result cost about $15 and 5 minutes of my time. It has exactly the same choke as an 18.5" barrel, but with better sights than a standard bead. This one shoots buckshot as well as the cyl choked barrel on my other guns and groups slugs into about 4" perfectly centered at 100 yards.

If you already have an extra barrel you are not using, or can pick up one cheap enough cutting one down is a viable option. If you're going to have to spend $100 for a barrel, then it makes more sense to just buy the one you want.

Don't forget the 20" barrels. My Wingmaster has a 20" smoothbore barrel with rifle sights. It does everything I want and then some.

The 26" or 28" Vent Rib barrel cost $200 from Remington. So cut that down to make a $101 barrel. Sounds like a Government Contract Job.
