My Remington Rand does not have the FJA Ord Inspector Mark? It has nothing there? 1945 last run by s/n. Was this an oversite or that late in the war was the inspection done elsewhere? Please advise. Thanks much!
That was my first thought, RR slide on a different frame, not uncommon. Researching the s/n and the details of how it's stamped should reveal who made the frame.
We need good pictures of the serial number and USP area, and the left side of the frame where the inspection mark would be. It could be that the frame is not even an R-R or not even made in the U.S.
Since the surge of lightly stamped frames being imported from South America, a lot of strangely marked 1911's and 1911A1's have been turning up; buyer beware!
It is a R-R frame and the right side looks OK, though the markings might be a little light. But the frame color is not quite the same as the slide. The little inspectors mark below the magazine release on the left side is also missing, and the lengthwise striations could indicate that the frame was belt sanded and re-parked, which would explain the missing FJA. The grips look to be the wrong color, but that could be a trick of the light.
Those grips are not right; I think they came from N.C. (www.gungrip.com). I don't think you have an ordnance rebuild, you have a pistol that was probably rusted, then refurbished, after it left the service. It is a good job, but the grips, and the light gray Parkerizing on the frame give it away. So, it is not in original condition, but still a good example of a WWII Remington-Rand and very likely a good shooter.
