I have a friend trying to replace a stolen heirloom. He says it was a Remington .22 rifle. Single shot lever action. He described it to me that you drop the lever, insert a round, replace the lever, cock the hammer and fire. Anyone know of a Remington like that? I'd like to help him find another one.

Sounds like a rolling block from the description. Don't know where he could find one, but I know that design was commonplace, and if it doesn't have to be Remington, he can probably find one uber-cheap.

Sounds more like a Martini-action Remington single-shot. I can't recall the models off the top of my head.

Maybe one of the Ithaca clones they made?

definitely not a "traditional lever gun" i agree that it sounds like a rolling block, not sure what model though

He told me that it had a lever like a regular lever action but that it loaded on the top, not on the side. He's not really a gun guy, so his descriptions are a little vague.

It sounds like a Remington Model 4,

Here's a picture of mine....

Ask him if it had an octagonal barrel??
