I just got through reading the Tactical Wepons magazine (July 2009) and it showed a new 700 rifle from Remington called the Modular Sniper Rifle (MSR). The magazine showed no price right now for the rifle. Here's what Tactical Weapons said:
Remington MSR

"Perhaps the most anticipated of oll the PSR candidates is Remington's new MSR (Modular Sniper Rifle). The MSR represents an entirely new action and chassis from this American icon. For decades the Remington 700-especially the action- has dominated the sniper landscape. Could the MSR represent the drawing of a new era for snipers everywhere? We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime here's the skinny on this bolt-action, side folding powerhouse.
Remington's new MSR is so new and so unique that the entire rifle is patent pending. Everything from the triangular-shaped three-lugged titainium action with a 60 degree bolt throw to the side folding modular stock was developed specifically for this solicitation. Perhaps the most unique to this rifle is the opperators abbility to change both barrel and calibeer. One rifle will be able to shoot .308, .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua Mag from barrels ranging from 20 inches to 27 inches.
Other significant features include a modular forend that lets the shooter choose it's lengh, a rail system that allows numerable mounting options for any number of shooting accesories, an adjustable trigger and an AR-style pistol grip. The rifle's incredible durability and Remington's reputation for quality make this contender supremely difficult to defeat. While not immediately ready for civilian purchase, Remington may make it in the future."(www.remington.com)

Ok, I'm very excited about this new rifle, just wanted to know if anyones heard of the MSR, or what ya'll think about it?

I'm sooooo sick of the multitudes of new "tactical" / long-range rifles continually being offered in inferior calibers to those which they should be offered in: .260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5-284 Norma, various 7mms, etc. .338 lapua is ok, but the other two stink (relatively speaking). :p At least they've got a decent bbl length offering - 27".

Sounds to me like they are trying to outdo savage and their new "tactical precision rifles". I also agree with Dr. Tad, they need to offer better calibers.

so, anyone has happen to know any more info on MSR?

This is the first I'd heard of this and when you look at the dates involved in this press release and Remington' propensity to announce things 2 years before they even get to the level of vaporware I suspect further details id at all will be a long long time coming.

Remington seems to like ensuring that any potential customers for a new product will be as disgusted as possible with with 36 month lead times for new rifle lines. That way as many sales as possible go to the competition that had their product out months ago.

EDIT

Funny thing is the top Google search result for "Remington MSR" is a link to this thread. The fourth result is this

LOL If fully loaded with rails I wonder just how many "slots" would be on this rifle? I'd guess close to 400

Also, not very "Remington-y"
yes, and my 1st thought was that Remington in this case is just a marketing agency for someone's else design - but i might be wrong on this as well.

At first this rifle reminded me on AIG Asymmetric Warrior rifle but then i spotted many detailed differences in receiver, stock and almost every other parts of both guns...

It looks like another unique solution to a non existent problem.

Hehehe... it looks like Big Green is groping at straws.. The MSR was a military trials flop that will be pushed onto the public. But hey... the tacticool, weekend sniper crowd will eat these up... we have 2 on order.

Whoops... don't bust on Remington too hard... all the manufactures do this.

tell the public of your new product, see how many dealer request you get in a given time and manufacture accordingly, as not to make too many units that may or may not sell. If you have a warehouse full of unwanted product... then what?

:D

How many police agencies or military groups issue 6.5-284? 6.5 Creedmore?

It's not a non-existant problem, the requirement wanted a quad rail forend, for mouting NV, without any propreitary mounts that a traditional stock has to use.

That's what I've read of course, I'm not top brass. hehehehe

Uncle Mike, do you have any more details on this?

Other than what the rep was babbling about in regards to quantity, price, materials used in the construction... No, no further trials information was discussed, there was however mention of a 870 that was rejected and a 870 that was "picked up" and ?components? that made the trials.

These guys will tell you anything to get you to stock their product. The Remington reps have always been honest and pretty good guys.

:D
