So a few weeks ago I posted how I gave this proposal to a representative of one of my senator's:
(In 1999 Congress exempted muzzle loading firearms from the Gun Control Act but not the National Firearms Act. This would correct that oversight).
A BILL
To standardize the definition of ‘antique firearm’ between the Gun Control Act and the National Firearms Act
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act/Amendment may be cited as the `_____________’
SEC. 2. STANDARDIZING AMENDMENT
(a) Section 5845(g) of chapter 53 Title 26 United States Code is rewritten to read:
‘The term “antique firearm” has the same meaning as found in Section 921(a)(16) of Chapter 44 Title 18 United States Code. It shall also include any muzzle loading firearm that cannot fire conventional fixed cartridge ammunition regardless of the date of manufacture of such firearm .’
UPDATE:
I hadn't heard anything so I called back and I was told they would look into what is going on my proposal. I will call again soon to politely keep the pressure on- let them know I am serious about passing this.
