I recently bought some new sights for my winchester 94 trapper. The bad news is, I have no idea how to remove the old sights. What tools do I need? Do I have to take it to a gunsmith?

you should be able to drift out the rear sight with a wooden dowel or brass punch and a hammer, but be gentle. the front sight either screws in, easy to remove with a flat blade, or is dovetailed in so you can use the same proceedure as the rear. i can't remember which type the front is, but no, you don't have to pay a gunsmith to do it.

Depends?

I have a three year old Winchester Trapper (.357 mag) that had factory Buckhorn sights. (I hate Buckhorn sights)

I bought an XS (Ashley Express) Ghost Ring setup from Brownells and installed it myself. Factory front sight drifted out with a brass punch, and the insert on the rear sight slid out when the sight leaf was pulled up.

The new sights are larger and easier to pick up, and more accurate in my hands. The new front sight slid into the factory dovetail (with a little help), and the ghost ring rear screwed onto the top of the receiver.

Dirft them out and drift the new in. I left the rear out on mine and installed a receiver sight, a Lyman 66. You can do it.

SoundWave my sights on 94 were fine but I added a scope for longer target.I got a 94 + 95 weaver mounts ,one long one wide after that it was simple to attach the scope or a red dot if targets are close.
