Hello all,

I have a RCBS 223Rem X-Die that a casing is now stuck in.

I was able to do 3 cases before this one. I lubed them all fairly well.

Any tricks on getting it out? BTW - the rim on the casing is gone, sheared right off.

Thanks for any help.

I broke down and spent the $15 or so for the RCBS Stuck Case kit. Mostly because I wanted to get the case out RIGHT NOW so I could get back to reloading. Worked fine. Worked fast.

As far as I am concerned, the commercially available stuck case removers are the way to go. They're cheap enough, and most of the "home built" remedies I have seen struck me as too liable to bugger up a good die to justify the small amount of money saved.

Hmm, ya know, I thought about grabbing one of those on my last trip for supplies yesterday, but I didn't.

Shame on me.

Thanks for the info, for some reason I hadn't though of that until I read these, heh.

What do you think is so 'special' about the kit?

All you need is
A tap (1/4-20 works for most cases)
A matching drill
A socket from the toolbox that clears the case head
A bolt
A washer large enough to hold the bolt hwead out of the square socket drive

Drill case
Tap case
Place socket over head of case
Insert bolt through washer and thread into case
Tighten bolt

The only thing the case has that is at all 'special' is the metal cup used in place of a socket.

I had a stuck .223 in a Lee size die, the rim sheared off. I removed the decap pin and used a brass rod to knock the case back out.

Well, that's why I like Lee dies, beside the fact that their system keeps the sturdy decapper better-centered and resists getting bent better than anything else I've tried...but it doesn't help our guy whose case is stuck in an RCBS X-Die.

I'm for the 1/4x20 thread approach. I have also sometimes been able to get the decapper out (if you're expanding in the same die, and the case is in too deep--usually is!--you can't do this) and wham the case out with a mild steel rod, like an old cleaning rod section. Check for bending and whacking the neck area of the die!

+1 on Brickeyee's approach. I use a 1/4-28 tap & bolt though.
1/4" drive 1/2" socket seems to work well for the 7.62x51 LC cases I keep getting stuck. Man it pisses me off. Everything will be going along just fine and then bam. Stuck case. Grrrrr:fire:

That or get lee dyes. just like was mentioned. you can take out the depriming rod from the top and then tap it out. very easy.
