report by an anti

Ukraine Train, how did you stumble upon this tripe? And why is it any more relevant to anyone than the millions of other illiterate offerings commonly turned in by freshman composition students?

If you found an 18 year old kid that wrote a well argued piece, that would be worth posting I guess, but this is like pointing out a kid that doesn't like to do his homework. Nothing special.

A friend sent me the link. I posted it purely because I found it amusing, I didn't think that it really had any merit.

Good to see that he's not really a wacko anti.

I think we should all take a lesson from this episode to check up on the story before we fly off the handle and fire away with nasty-grams (I contemplated an email myself before I saw the rest of the thread). As the student said
I am favor of the 2nd amendment and the numerous rude emails would have swayed me to the antigun side if I was not sure of the amendments validity
We are The High Road afterall.

If he can be so easily swayed he's not that much of an asset to our cause.

MOST people can be EASILY swayed one way or the other on an issue they know nothing about. That doesn't say anything bad about the individual in question; it just means they don't have all the facts.

Rude emails are NEVER the correct course of action, especially when trying to convince someone to see things the way you do.

And having an uninformed person who can easily be swayed helps our cause how, exactly? I'd far prefer such people to be on the other side.

Problem is, this country is chock-full of uninformed, easily-swayed people. You can thank our wonderful People's Educational System for that. These people are deluged with anti-gun propaganda from birth. Bringing them over to our side can only be done by teaching them to think.

If they're taught to think about one issue, it may spread to others. It could create thinking human beings out of subhuman automatons. Then they might not be so uninformed nor easily swayed. But if we give up and say, "Who cares what they think?", we're inviting disaster. These are the people who are the other side. They vote into office those who would use the might of the State to render you as defenseless as a Briton. If that's what you want, stop caring and stop trying. Me, I'll debate the point with anyone who shows even a glimmer of the ability to reason. You never know.

Lets not be so hard on the kid. As others have pointed out he's eighteen and a Freshman in college. Though it's been eighteen years I can still remember my Freshman year in college. I had my own beliefs and ideas, but college can cause one to question those - sometimes to the point where you might turn away from them. At least for awhile.

After a couple of years I found myself returning to my old ideas with a stronger conviction. Only I was more informed and possessed a greater understanding of my beliefs by the time I was in my twenties.

I really didn't come to appreciate the importance of gun ownership until I was in my late twenties. It took that long for me to realize the complexity of the issue - and I was raised with guns. I had been a member of the NRA until I was nineteen and then let it lapse because of peer pressure (acceptance by one's "friends" seems important at that time) but when I was 28 I realized what a fool I'd been.

This kid isn't so bad - hey he's thinking for himself. And there is a very good chance that he will be a fine RKBA believer in his more mature years.

Well, votes, for one thing...

How many voters disect every single issue and think of all the possible long term consequences that could result?.. None that I've ever met. There simply isn't time to do so. So, on issues that a certain individual doesn't have a great personal vested interest in, they typically just listen to the talking points of each side, if even that much.

Rude emails don't exactly come off as intelligent anyhow.
