Rifle as Halloween prop?

Honestly, the only problem that I can see from carrying around a Mosin for a costume (especially if you're out all night) is the fact that it gets heavy.

The anti 2nd Amendment sorts are always looking for fuel to propel their crusade. Do not allow yourself to become fodder used for striping the Rights of your peers.

In our political and social climate, it is best not to push the grey areas.... the push back may not work in our favor. Steer on the side of caution.

After deciding to dress up as a WWII era Russian conscript

How about dressing up as a Russian clerk or cook. :D

Or even the second or third waves of infantry who had to pick up their rifles from fallen soldiers. :uhoh:

Another idea--Go as a political officer and hand out a bunch of inspirational leaflets extolling the virtues of five year plans and such. Insist that candy, shoes, clothing, etc. be given to you to redistribute. Have fun with it.

He doesn't want to be mistaken for a Democrat.

Just attach the bayonet to a 2x4. It'll be handy for the apple bobbing.

You certainly have the right to carry said rifle IAW the 2nd Amendment, but ask yourself is it wise to do so. Personally I believe you do more harm to our cause by arousing the ire of a lot of folks. The real Brady bunch folks are already lost, but many folks that are not rabid anti-gunners and some rabid 2nd Amendment guy such as I will see your actions as irresponsible and inflammatory. I would throw you off my property. I can also see many mothers dialing 911. They certainly have no way to notice the firing pin has been removed and will probably believe you are some kind of twisted mass murdering Psycho. If you must carry a rifle, make it one of those obviously non fire arms theatrical rifles. The obviously empty holster is probably a better stroke.

You could just ask the host what they think.

As a fellow guy from NC I'd advise against it. I personally wouldn't care if it were on my property, but others might.

The going armed to terror of public can be used in a lot of ways by LE. If you do decide to after talking to ppl who are gonna be at the party, mainly the host, I'd keep it locked up in the car when not on his property.

Most people probably wouldn't even notice it or think twice about it on halloween, but yah never know who might scream gun. Then you get to explain why you're walking around a bunch of kids with a real gun. Not fun.

Plus if you plan on drinking or others around you drinking it'd be a no no. But I'm sure that'd be preaching to the choir.

I vote "NO". If your kid knocked on my door and I saw Dad with a rifle on his shoulder, I would not like it, gun rights or not. But at a private party, it would be your buisiness.

It would only bother me if he didn't bring enough ammo for us all to shoot!

Rifle as Halloween prop?

I would do it. I have done it. In fact, I loaned my boss a "period looking" muzzle loder to accesorize her pirate costume for the upcoming office party.

Pulling the bolt sounds easier than removing the firing pin.

You really want to cart a Mosin around at a party all night? Jeez, I get tired of carting it around at the range, let alone when I'm at a party

That would be my first thought. Why would I want to lug around a heavy, four foot long rifle? Talk about being in the way.
