Rifle in same cartridge as handgun .357

Lever guns and revolvers in the same caliber are about as American as it gets. Some are rimfires like these Henry’s and Rugers in .22 WMR and .22 LR:

Others are centerfires, like the Rossi B-92 and Ruger old Vaquero in .45 Colt, B-92 and S&W 66 in .357 Mag. and Winchester 1894 Trapper and S&W Mountain Gun in .44 Mag.

I also like semi autos in the same calibers like the Ruger PC 9 and Glock 34 or the Ruger 10/22 and Mk IV in .22 LR.

Twice the fun with half the hassle of finding ammo…you can’t beat that combo .

Stay safe.

I suppose there is some merit and convenience to having rifle/pistol combo on same caliber.

I have an Old Model Single Six .22LR and and a Browning BL-22.
A New Model Single Six .22WMRF and a Marlin 1894
A Ruger Blackhawk .357 and a Marlin 1894
A Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 and a Browning B-92
A Ruger Vaquero .45C and a Henry Golden Boy

If I could find a mate for my Blackhawk .41Mag, I would be set.

I have 22,357,44 mag and 45 colt combos

many of each

fav is marlin 357 Jm & stainless smith pre lock

reload , so mild to wild- green and red marker on primers.

My "pairs" are triples, mainly because the other revolver is blued LNIB collectible I rarely take out anywhere and the other one is stainless shooter, which also is more resistant to wear and tear.

Marlin 1895C .357 + 4" Colt Python + 6" S&W 686-2
Ruger Deerfield .44 + S&W Mountain Gun + 6" Colt Anaconda

I didnt count 22s because I dont think I can... Maybe 10-15 pairings.

TC contender and H&R single shot 22 Hornet
TC C and rem 722 in 222Rem
TC C and Rem 700 (and a couple ARs, mini 14) in 223
AR pistol and SKS in 7.62x39 (okay, kinda cheating lol)
American Derringer and Rem 870 and Stevens 22-410 in 410.

Two I would like would be a 10mm AR to go with my Glock 20 and a 38-40 lever action to go with my Colt New Service.

Those Henry Single Shot rifles are really nice and priced right too. I have the steel 45-70, but after they expanded the cartridge offerings and added some pistol cartridge rifles to the line up I looked at them and they are just as nice as my 45-70 model. Also, their customer service is excellent.

I noticed the MSRP has gone up. Sign of the times, I guess. :scrutiny:

Fortunately, real world prices are still under $400

I have a 4" colt trooper paired with a marlin trapper. I also have a marlin 45c cowboy and would like a ruger single action to pair up with it.

No kidding? My wheel gun is a Taurus 66 with a 6 inch barrel and six shot cylinder. They are just like a Smith on the outside. I think the internal difference is the Taurus use of coiled springs in a place Smith uses leaf springs but I'm not sure

Yeah, they look enough alike to be confused as the same gun from a distance, even to the trained eye, but few if any parts are interchangeable. I'd pick up a Model 19 in a heartbeat should one come my way at a reasonable price. That being said, I wouldn't trade my Taurus 66 for a S&W 19. There are some design features in the Brazilian 66 that I feel are better.

The new Taurus 66 on the other hand is some kind of cruel joke. To make it a 7 shooter without changing the model number? Whose idea was that? So yeah, I'm happy I bought mine when they were 6 cylinder as God intended. I've put some hot load through it over the years and it's no worse for the wear.

Ruger and S&W have both done that, putting a seventh shot in both the GP100 and 686 without changing the name.

I hear that. I don't like the way the new ones are all stainless. Or at least I haven't seen a blue one. I got mine back in 2011 or 2012 it was my second revolver. Had a Colt Official Police 4 inch .38 special for my first and was a fool to give it up. Trigger was heavier than I like but the weight distribution was perfect. Balanced out in my hand perfectly

It’s Tiny. Thin forearm, Slender stock. Small action and 16” trapper length…. About the size of a Red Ryder BB gun. Yet great accuracy out to 100 yards with open sites.

I like that size of lever gun. Some of the old ones are too long. That looks comfortable for a thin frame guy like me

I really liked my 16" 44mag R92.

It felt like a toy it was so small. Perfect for deer drives in thick brush.

My current R92 is a 20" 357mag and it still feels pretty tiny. I don't think I'd go any longer though.

I too like a rifle/handgun in the same caliber...especially useful for the short range hunting here in Ky. I have a Marlin 1894CS that pairs nicely with a S&W M-19 and 66 as well as a Ruger BH Flat Top. All are great guns and good deer medicine as well. That Marlin will give me inch and a half groups @ 100 yds with selected cast LSWC's pushed at ~1550 fps. It's an 18-1/2" bbl'd carbine that fits the hand well, and is more than adequate with a receiver or Skinner peep sight. For load work up, I scope mine with a 2.5x Leupold, but hunt with the Skinner. HTH's Rod

My favorite caliber pairing is in 32-20. A special order 1873 Winchester rifle with 30" octagon barrel and full length magazine, and cresent buttplate. Mfg in 1890. It'll hold 17 or 18 rounds. Then a Colt New Navy made in 1897 that has been rode hard and put away wet, many times.

I did something similar here, but with a more modern caliber. A 3" Ruger SP101 in 327 Fed Mag partnered with a 20" Henry in the same. A modern 32-20 combo was what I had in mind.

My Winchester Deluxe with a 24" Octagon barrel is by far the best rifle I own and I have owned A LOT of rifles. Its my "go to" gun for everything except long range shooting. I have it set up with a Trijicon RMR and a tsc light (I know it sacreligious). It holds 15 rounds of 357 mag and it a fearsomely nimble rifle. If I am using handloads I can keep up with most 30-30 loadings and far surpass any 223 loads (just not at distance). If I am using Double Tap or Buffalo Bore heavies it sounds like Thors Hammer when the bullet hits. Ive taken everything up to and including a cow elk with it. My only complaint is that it isnt a takedown model and I am not comfortable leaving it with a gunsmith for a year to have it converted.

My 357 pairing is a octagonal barrel Rossi and a 3" sp101. Although most of my shooting with both is 38 special ammo. Which would make pairing my model 10s with the rifle work too. IMG_20211219_125744226.jpg IMG_20211219_130414209.jpg

My other pistol cal rifle pistol pairing that will get used together and likes the same ammo is a cva scout/Ruger super Blackhawk 44 mag setup. IMG_20211219_125533651.jpg
I have tried a few others, but the rifle and handgun being able to actually use the same ammo in the real world can sometimes be difficult to make work.
