While in FL, he got his CCW(doesn't expire until '09) and now he is a resident of Indiana again. Does he still have his CCW, or is it now void because he is a IN resident?
Licensees are required to notify Florida of address changes. The permit should remain valid as far as Florida is concerned.

I believe Indiana requires residents to carry on an Indiana license though.

IC 35-47-2-21
Recognition of retail dealers' licenses and licenses to carry handguns issued by other states
Sec. 21. (a) Retail dealers' licenses issued by other states or foreign countries will not be recognized in Indiana except for sales at wholesale.
(b) Licenses to carry handguns, issued by other states or foreign countries, will be recognized according to the terms thereof but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana.

I ran across this old thread while searching to see who was linking my map, after having updated it to reflect the new shall-issue law in Iowa.

I'm responding to it because it might lead to a misunderstanding.

Gary Shade contacted me, a number of years ago, about my map. He disagreed with my characterization of Alabama and Connecticut. Both have laws that are may-issue, according to the letter of the law, but are administered in a shall-issue fashion. When I first made this map, the NRA had both listed as shall-issue. A number of years later they added a "discretionary/reasonable" category, and put AL and CT in that category, which I can understand. (They also put Iowa in that category, which I thought was a serious mistake. Fortunately, starting Jan 1, this will no longer be an issue.)

In any case, Gary asked me if I'd change my map. I declined. He then asked if he could make his own map reflecting his own understanding of the law. I said I didn't think he needed my permission, but if he did, he had it.

So, if anyone comes wandering across this thread, and starts wondering about the accusations made against handgunlaw.us, they are entirely groundless.

As a resident of Iowa, i am so glad to see that change!, our goal someday should be all green, or at least blue.

As of today...

  • Three states protect concealed carry as a Right.
  • Forty-six offer a concealed carry Privilege.
  • Two states outright deny it to their citizens.

I'm still highly annoyed that South Carolina give reciprocity to NOBODY.
