He emailed me a few times in 2003 when I commented on one of his firearms reviews. Nothing on the personal level, just gun talk. I read his reviews often and enjoyed them. Rest In Peace.
Man, that just sucks! Something just Natural and Folksy about the guy. His them song and his mannerisms are etched into my mind. "This is the way God intended for a revolver to be". is just one of his quotes I remember off the top of my head.
He will be missed greatly. Condolences to his family.
ps. every time I hear the word "Dandy", I think of Jeff.
Great man and great reviewer. Years ago when I bought my first pistol, I asked him what a good smaller carry would be. He gave me a very detailed email response for the Walther PPS. A few months later he wrote a review of it. Instantly became a grail gun and I looked for one for years until I found one when the M2 came out.
I rather appreciated that his reviews were mostly positives of a product. Not everything needs to be dissected down to the smallest of nits to pick. A lot of times, his reviews would be the first place I would stop when interested in a gun before going down a deeper more critical rabbit hole.
Apparently he was born in 1959, making him about 61 years old. I understand he had been suffering from kidney failure, secondary to diabetes, for many years. Too young, from an insidious disease.
I hope I have not passed along misinformation. The date of birth is from an anonymous internet post, so grain of salt.
I have known about his diabetes, and the ravages caused by it, for several years. I believe it is a mark of a good man to carry on despite such troubles while not making them a centerpiece of the story.
Very sad, but not a surprise as Jeff has been in poor health for years. Gunblast was one of the channels on youtube that got me into guns and every SHOT show I eagerly awaited each video to see what was featured. Really all the gun conventions that Gunblast would go to were the best.
It's truly awful and the world is a lesser place without Jeff Quinn.
