rock island armory 1911s?

I'd imagine the full-sized ones are fine.

I bought an officer model with crimson trace grips for $600 about a month ago, and it's been nothing but problems. First fifty rounds and the ejector pin bent up, locking the slide. Finally got it open, pounded the ejector back into place, made sure everything got very well lubed. Polished some ramps.

Then it went full auto on me. Returned it to the shop I bought it from, they swapped some parts, I got it back a week later.

Now the spring on the main guide rod slips past the end cap, making the weapon fail to return to battery.

Even with the work done and replacement parts I'll be able to put tritium sights on to a fixed model for about the price of a taurus (ignoring the crimson trace), and I'm pondering throwing Nighthawk Custom or Cylinder and Slide parts in to replace the trigger/sear/disconnect/etc. To be fair, the trigger's actually not bad out of the box, whereas the GI sights are terrible.

RIA quality "threads" are obnoxious- they are cheap!

Tell us about the ones you've owned or even shot. There's nothing "cheap" about them...... inexpensive, yes. Cheap, no.

RIA quality "threads" are obnoxious- they are cheap! but the first time someone says that, the vigilanties come out to cover up their error in purchasing one... get a springfield milspec and save yourself

Whatever...I've got a SA Mil Spec and a RIA. Both seems to be as equally made and function fine.

I've got the Tactical in bi-tone, and with the exception of a couple FTFs during break-in, I've never had any complaints about it.

And with the price, I have no qualms about it getting a little roughed up during carry.

They're certainly no safe-queens. Mine is actually my favorite carry piece.

My father-in-law has one and for a bare bones 1911 they are vary nice shooters. The only problem we had with it was when he had a slide job done and it was failing to return to full battery but after about 200 rounds it stoped happening. Once again vary good shooter.

I actually just picked one up for about $370 out the door. Go to Sarco Inc. and they can set you up with one for a terrific price. Also you'd better hurry because when I got mine the price had just gone up ten bucks and now it's up $40 more ($350 last time I checked).

i just read a test...

...on the new rock island armory FS Match. this thing has adjustable sights, a full length guide rod, NICE wood grips, nice blue finish, is fit in the custom shop, comes with two 8-round novak mags and will shoot into 1.5" with wolf ammo--tighter with premium stuff. all this for $650.00. we should all get one.

I have one of the tactical models, there's good and bad about it.

The good:

The trigger is awesome, super smooth and crisp, love it. the finish is nice on mine, but I like park. A pleasure to shoot overall. Sights are easy to see in daylight. No failures to fire/eject thus far. The controls in general on this are smooth and easy to operate. I found this gun easy to disassemble and reassemble.

The bad:

Mine has failures to return to battery, fore and aft surfaces of the disconnector needed polishing which was quick and easy and alleviated the vast majority of symptoms. I also put in an 18.5 lb spring which I hope will further help the reliability. I haven't had a chance to retest with the new spring yet. The gun shoots a bit low which I could fix by filing the front sight. I Won't bother because I'll be getting tritium sights anyway.

the ugly:

I don't care for the factory grips, kinda fat and too smooth. My local gunshop had a set of new armscor double diamond pattern wood grips that look and feel great and were only $20

1911 RIA Slide lock

:banghead:I have two RIA 45's. The last one purchasted has started to shoot one or two rounds and then the slide locks open. Push the slide lock release and fire one two or three and the slide locks open, push the slide lock and continue.
Any ideas on what my problem is???
Tnanks, Fred

I got a RIA 1911 compact last spring. After a quick return (at no charge) to sort out a minor teething problem, it's been flawless. Handles hollowpoints without complaint. It's definitely a pleasure to handle and shoot. I'd rate it as a super bargain at its low price point. And Armscor has superb customer service.

I recently did some trading and got a new RIA GI in .38 Super. It was tagged $418, came with the case and 1 mag. I was impressed with the fit, it was surprisingly tight, and everything felt and functioned the way it should. The parkerizing is even andd looks nice. The mag is a no-name brand so I ordered a few Metalforms to go with it.

After giving it a good cleaning and lube it runs like a champ. It eats Aguila FMJ, Win Silvertips, and 9x23 Win JSP like candy, it shoots to point of aim and is surprisingly accurate. Also, after some shooting and a fair amount of dry firing it has a terrific trigger - clean and crisp and I'm guessing about 4-5lbs.

The only things I've done to it are replace the grips and add a set of 3 dot sights. I think these guns are a great deal if you're looking for a rugged, no frills 1911.
