my otherwise nice rossi revolver came from gunbroker slightly out of time, sadly undisclosed by the seller, which i learned after shooting it, and shaving lead. the seller declined to make it right. my local gunsmith says lack of parts and can’t repair it. otherwise it’s in really fine shape. i locked it up.

i took it out recently after noticing that 32 revolver ammo is available and cheap here. can anyone suggest a rossi revolver specialist gunsmith anywhere? i found steve’s gunz in texas on the internet but he focuses on rossi lever action rifles. i could simply sell it for parts but now i would like to repair it if possible. thank you in advance for suggestions!

“Out of time” is not a full enough description of the issue. Is the cylinder rotating too much, not enough, rotating properly and being kicked out of time by the bolt? Is it one chamber or multiple? What does the forcing cone look like? If it’s abnormally square then perhaps your revolver is in spec with exception of the barrel. Is the barrel concentric because if it’s off then the action and cylinder may be perfectly fine and you gun may just need a barrel. If the frame is twisted then the whole thing is pretty well toast.

Spitting lead is bad, and I agree that it’s not a good idea to shoot it like that. The reason it’s spitting lead can be a bunch of different things. Some can be adjusted easily, some not as easily, some fixes might require parts, some may just be a need to fit current parts better.

The thing your going to run into with a J frame Rossi is that the guns are cheap and a lot of gunsmiths will simply decline work rather than quote you a “not to exceed” where the bill is what the gun is worth, or possibly more.

Comparing drawings of a Rossi Model 68 ( https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/rossi/revolvers-rossi/68-rossi ) and a S&W Model 36
( https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/smith-wesson/revolvers-sw/36-sw ) makes them look pretty similar, to me at least. It's kind of hard to tell from exploded view drawings. Anyway, would someone who could fix an S&W also know how work on one of these Rossis?

Anyway, good luck.

PS - what is the plural, in English, of Rossi? Rossis does not look right.

WestKentucky is correct. First you will need someone to determine what the exact issue is. Then one can look at what it will take to correct it. You do not need to take it to a Rossi specific Gunsmith. Any reasonably competent Smith should be able to evaluate the gun and give you a good idea of what is needed to repair it.

it will cost you more to fix it than it is worth. you now have a parts gun. sorry but rossi is defunct and the availability of parts are extremely slim.
