Round butt S&W Model 66-2

Question for all you S&W experts - I have a 2.5 in SS Model 66-2 .357 Mag with a round butt. Ser #ACN8XXX. Got it from my dad about 15 years ago. He bought it a fews years before that. I thought that all K frames had square butts until the mid 90s when they went to the round butt. Can anyone enlighten me about this? Thanks.

Your model 66-2 was made during 1983. Those made with barrel lengths under 4 inches (the 2 1/2" length in particular) were built on round butt frames. Some 4 inch guns were made with round butts, but as a rule were made with square butts until S&W switched all K-Frame's to the round configuration.
