hey, guys, recently my friends experienced a problem: his ruger 22/45 MKIII can not drop down through pressing the mag release button when bolt retracted, but when bolt goes forward, mag can be dropped.I wonder if that is normal. thanks.

Never really paid attension to it, as I figured the 22/45 mags just don't drop free because of the angle. But I checked. With bolt locked back on an empty mag the release causes the mag to drop about 1/2" which is what I'm used to at the range. Hitting the release with the bolt forward causes the empty mag to slide out cleanly, but this is not the "normal" situation for using the mag release.

I'd say its at least common if not normal.

The upward pressure of the follower against the underside of the bolt is what ejects the mags when the release is pressed.

If the bolt is in the rearward position, there's nothing for the follower to push against and so the mags will stay in position unless they fit loosely enough that gravity pulls them out.

Ruger needs to take a hint from Browning and put a little spring loaded nub under the grip like a Buckmark. My Buckmarks mag would literally launch itself out of the grip frame.

It's not the 22/45 its the Mark III model. Mark III pistol magazines will not drop free of the grip frame due to the magazine disconnector safety lever. This lever binds on the magazine body when a magazine is released due to its design. The only way to guarantee a Mark III pistol's magazine drops free is to remove the magazine safety lever and mark III hammer, and replace them with a Mark II hammer and hammer bushing.

Hope this helps.

R,
Bullseye
