I know there are plenty of threads and I have read most of it, but I am mostly going to be buying this to improve my accuracy with my springfield XD-9, I have not shot pistols in a while, beyond my springfield recently, and its getting too expensive to shoot, a .22 would be cheaper, and more importantly it would allow me to shoot in places I could not shoot my 9 as I could build a backstop. However the question is, for improving accuracy with a XD which would be the better gun?

If your XD has a thumb safety on it, the one on the Ruger SR works exactly BACKWARDS (down for safe, up to shoot).

Not a good thing to train with a backwards safety.

The 22/45 has a normal thumb safety - up for safe, down to shoot.

Mine does not have the thumb safety, I liked the .22 mk iii as a target pistol but I think the luger grip may affect accuracy too much, I haven't shot much in recent history so I don't know if two different grip angles may throw off accuracy

SR22 because it feels very similar to the xd with the full movement slide, it's just smaller. Plus it's a great gun, fun, accurate and feels natural.

If you get the 22/45 you will want this. I dropped one in my 22/45 and it improved the trigger, simplified reassembly and lets the magazines drop free. Vast improvement to a fine pistol.

When I gifted my Woodsman Target to my youngest son, I replaced the Woodsman with a 22/45 with threaded barrel and rails top and bottom. Love it. Installed the VQ accurizing kit and am running it suppressed. Bought a Target model next, along with Target models for my daughter and one of her friends. My brother even bought one.

Love the 22/45s.

The sr22 wins for fun and practice.

I say get it and then later on get the 22/45. I have and LOVE both the 22/45 and sr22.

Does anyone make a .22 upper for the XD like is available for a Glock?

I have an AA one for my 26 and it's great. Train with the same sights, grip and trigger.

Between those two models I would go with the 22/45. I like the design and configuration of the grip assembly on the 22/45 over that of the SR22. In my hand it seems to have a better heft and balance to it.

Any .22 will improve your shooting---its about trigger time and not grip angle

I have 2 MkIII's and a SR22---but haven't shot the SR yet----the 22/45 just feels weird to me.

The 22/45 will be more accurate but the SR functions and feels more like a combat pistol.

22/45 runs and runs accurately even with cheap ammo. Dry practice your manipulations with your centerfire.

I learn more about my shooting faults with an accurate pistol.

YMMV

I bought a new Ruger 22/45 last Feb and could nt be more happier. Although it has the plastic parts , the pistol is very accurate and grip feel is like a regular 1911. The Mk2 and Mk 3 i have are okey but it takes a little practice to aim with that weird grip angle. ANd nice thing with the 22/45 it shoots really tight groups and not finicky with different ammo loads.
