Anyone point me in the right direction with a cycling problem with Ruger 44 mag carbine.. It is failing to feed form the mag unless I pull bolt back manually. It ejects fired case but next round fails to feed.

Wlecome to THR! Not quite sure but you might want to look at the magazine spring. Might not be applying even pressure.

Is this with factory ammo or with reloads. My reloading manual talks about using loads toward the higher end up the spectrum to be able to cycle it properly.

There might be enough pressure to send the bolt back to eject the case but not enough to send it far back enough to pick up the next round.

RC nailed it again. It's a dirty piston, especially if you have been firing lead bullets in it. The same thing has happened to me , even using "Laser Cast" hard lead bullets. Please note that my original manual for the Ruger Carbine states that "factory jacketed bullets should only be fired in this rifle".

Thank you all for the comebacks. I had completely stripped rifle down and cleaned it including the gas piston as I suspected it and gas port, but it continues to be sporadic in cycling in next round, I am using handloads and have avoided cast bullets. I did wonder about the magazine spring and also the load pressures as mentioned. I'll go over it again today and reclean and check some more.
Again thanks all

Many years ago I had one that worked just fine. My buddy had one that jammed. It never jammed when I shot it so I blamed it on him being 6'5" 170 lbs. I told him that he needed to lean into the gun so the action could work the gun and not him.

The most important question is?
Does it work with factory loaded ammo?

If it does, it is your powder choice, or power level, although 19.0 grains AA#9 is getting pretty close to MAX.

Could be your gas system just doesn't like the pressure curve of AA#9.

Maybe try some H110 / W296 or something.

If it doesn't work with factory ammo, you have a gun problem.
Clean the gas piston for starters.

Since it is gas operated, I wouldn't think how hard you hold it should make much difference.
If the pressure curve is right, it should work held against your leg.
