Ruger American Pred 6.5 Grendel to 6ARC begins

not to detract from your 6.5 predator rifle adventure but mine is just as challenging. no matter what i couldnt get used to the stock so i ordered the most expensive laminated boyds stock with all the options. their bedding solution was a joke and the wood itself looked like it was chewed out by a rabid beaver.
... next a magpul hunter stock was ordered up and except the comb height, it was fitted up nicely. a ten dollar replacement comb used on the 10/22 solved that. i like scopes mounted low. (older made in usa burris titanium 2.5 x 10 50mm)
...gave up on magazines and use a single shot adapter intended for a ar match rifle.
...ps the 6mm arc led to two other rifles for me. lol.
I like those magpul stocks, id considered using one for this build but wanted a more vertical and thicker grip (closer to my dads HMR).
The boyds stocks are usually pretty good, but they at least require bedding, and for me reshaping of the belly area.
Id like to see how your rifle came out!

That's a heavy barrel.
Yep, im going for really heavy and easy to shoot on this one.
I weighed the whole complete rifle this morning before work and its 12lbs sans scope....im shooting for 15-17 lbs so i might add a bit more weight to balance it after scoping.

@LoonWulf Looks great can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
Working up loads?
I like that new stock ‘ look g forward to the next report .
Next major update SHOULD be a shooting report.
I have a whole host of light and mid 6mm hunting bullets, but im going to start with the 106Tac and 107smks (thanks again troy!).
Im starting with LVR powder, tho i do have some Tac and a few others that should work.

If this delivers the accuracy im expecting ill probably try an EC tuner brake.... really want to try one....

I will be interested in your load results.
Just shot up 100 87gr VMAX and in the end I do not believe this barrel likes them one bit. Best load was with 2460, second was Benchmark while the TAC and BL-C2 were absolutely unimpressive. Working with some 105gr Hornady Match next. Then I have one box of 100 Barnes Match Burners, 105gr.

Update!

Got the barrel a while ago, but didnt get anywhere with it till a week ago.

Got the barrel spun on and headspaced with a new case. Ive got gauges coming but for now this will work.

I also ended up ordering another stock since the barrel is too wide for the light varmints forend.
I went with a ProV because i like them and they are cheap.
Got that rough fitted and glasses this evening (messed up my knee a couple weeks ago so spent most of the day doing dr stuff). Ill finalize it tomorrow evening most likely.

That looks like a Boyd’s stock.

Got out and shot the ARC, i unfortunately forgot my Chrono, so some of the relevant data isnt available.
Accuracy was marginal at best, but i was shooting pretty horribly today, only on the second to last group was the gun not jumping all over.
Alot of vertical dispersion i need to go over all the mechanicals again, but that could just be me.

Overall tho the gun runs well and is comfortable, it needs a comb riser tho.

Ill work more on it before the next outing.

I have gotten some nice comb risers from Tourbon, but I also make my own. Not as nice looking but functional.

i use old style 87 sierra soft point bullets and re 15 in mine lol. shoots good. state of the art cartridge with last century components...go figure...
I think I have a box of those. I bought out an elderly gent who was selling off all his hand loading kit. Mostly .243 Win stuff.

So sorry but what load is this again? 106gr with LeveR? What distance?

I have 2 ladders of 105gr Hornady using Benchmark and 2460 I will post after I shoot them.

106 tap 29.5-31.5 of lvr.

Im gonna go over the gun again and try the 107smks troy sent along another run if the taps....
Again could be me, best group i got out of the S20 was an inch and change.......that gun dosent shoot 1" groups on a bad day.

It's looking really good, groups should tighten up more and maybe get some more rounds down range to really work up a load after it speeds up some. Do you have any Hornady brass, wonder how they compare to the *--* brass for volume. I should really order a 250 bag of starline brass for mine, I'll have 120 or 140 cases after I shoot all my factory ammo. My 6arc seems to like the Hornady 105 bthp better then the 108 eldm, maybe bring that up next visit to shoot still need to get some dies and a few bullets to try. Need to get my chronograph setup and working to.

Yeah, im expecting an improvement just from not shooting crappy....tho im gonna blame dad for the second group, he shot that lol.
Ive read mixed opinions on these tap bullets (2nds from midway) some guys have good uck some guys cant get anything resembling decent, so shooting smks and a few of the know good hunting bullets (i dont have the 87gr prohunters, but ive got 85gr game kings), should give a better idea how its going to end up.
More rounds down range will likely help as well lol.

I got 34.5gr of water from my necked starline.

Im looking forward to what all you guys find on your range trips!
