Just picked one of these up and looking for bulk ammo recommendations. Military ball or fmj. I realize each rifle is different but just looking for some personal experience and accuracy results. Would be great to hold it around an inch if possible.

Honestly IF 1MOA accuracy is a requirement, I'd skip the bolded. Go with a decent varmint or match bullet/ammo.

FMJ is often 1.5-2MOA at best. It took me quite a while but I did manage to put together a load using Hornady 62FMJ with TAC that will consistently hold 1.25-1.5 MOA for 5rds in my 3Gun carbine. With 69SMK or Nosler 55BTs, the same rifle is sub-MOA. For plinking/practice ammo FMJ is OK, for consistent small groups not so much.

I have the same rifle. I haven't shot factory ammo through it since the first day I shot it, because the results weren't anything special. Handloads almost always deliver sub-MOA accuracy, and many times even less than .5 MOA. But if you're just looking for some training ammo to familiarize yourself with the rifle, try ammoseek.com.

Could not agree more with your first statement. I only shoot factory in my .223 and have found this to be the case.

I would probably settle for those groups right there Nipprdog. They will open up some at 100 but I’m going to try a box. The main reason I bought the rifle is because 55 grain fmj is the most common load for .223/5.56 and even tho I have other rifles that shoot very well with heavier or lighter loads they can be hard or impossible to find. There always seems to be buckets of 55 grain stuff but I got nuthin’ that will shoot it. I hope the Ruger will be the exception.

PMC Bronze 55 FMJ 2900fps always shoots well. Can get 1000 rounds for $462 now at targetsportsusa.com. Great brass for reloading.

I don't have a Ruger but my Savage and ARs prefer 62gr sp instead of fmj or 55gr for factory loads and shoots 69gr reloads better than either

This is what I`ve shot for range fodder in my Savage 110 .223. It does go bang every time and I can get a sub-MOA group (3 rounds ), one or two out of five groups. Would like to find something at a reasonable price that`s more consistent. Going to try some remanufactured 55 grain VMax loads from Black Dot.

My shooting partner reloads most of our ammo nowadays, but if I have to buy 5.56 I usually look for American Eagle. I find it to be a good compromise between price and accuracy. In fact I often find it more accurate in my rifles than other so called "match" ammo. It also comes in bulk where a lot of others don't.

Posted these pic's a while back in another thread.

Bought this Ruger Ranch in .223 on a whim after reading a thread on this site. Decided I needed another rifle that was compatible with AR mags...still don't know why.

Anyway..... I was pleasantly surprised when the RR produced this 100 yard group with Fed bulk ammo with a 1X4 scope whose reticle all but blocked out center of target dot. Obviously the gun is capable of more with better glass and if you hand select the ammo. I'm happy with the bang for the buck I'm getting out of it.

Certainly already within MOA of coyote!!

Armored Farmer...funny you should like my post above as it was me reading your post a while back on your RR .450 Bushmaster that got me to buy one. I remember looking at the pic of it leaning against the tree and thinking...Well, that's just a niffy sized bolt gun. Until then I had no idea that Ruger was cranking out bolts that accepted AR mags...that's what sealed the deal and sold me on one.

Had I moved faster on the RR in .223 and realized how well it shot I probably would have picked up a .450 like yours as a local shop had one on sale about 10-12 months ago for $450 w/o tax. I'm loathe to add a new caliber to the inventory but I prob would have made the exception. I did notice that the .450 came standard from Ruger with a muzzle device as new and the RR in .223. did not. That made it even more of a value.

I won’t get into the fact you’re also the reason I have a Chogun laying around here I’m working to get decorated with Norse/Celtic runes.

I like ADI .223 69 grain Sierra Matchking for a precision round or hunting.
Any flavor of PPU is great.
For cheap bulk shooting, Am. Eagle or Wolf Gold 55gr. or Winchester 62 gr. has been good to me.

I’ve had surprising accuracy from Frontier 55 grain FMJ in the 223 loading. I went back and measured some groups and it shoots about 1.5 MOA in my scoped rifle. The Frontier 55 grain loaded to 5.56 specs wasn’t as accurate but your rifle may reverse that preference.

My 110 in .223 shoots the Frontier 55 grain OTMs routinely to sub-MOA at 100 yards.

I don’t think I tried the OTM on 55 grain. These were the FMJ. I did try the 68 grain Frontier OTM. They wouldn’t stay on an 8” target at 200 yards. Both my rifles have one load they just don’t work with at all and it different for both.

Finally got it scoped and cleaned and went out to the bench to get it on paper. Had some old Aguila 62 grain fmj stuff and at 25 yds it’s a little cluster. Don’t know what it will do at 100 yet. The problem is that large mag hanging out of it. Just gets in the way. I want a flush mag but I see a lot of bad reviews on the 5 round. Anybody have experience with those?

Oops…I just looked again…it’s a Sight Mark 1-4x24….not X7. Fixed my reply above. My mistake. :

This rifle is about a 2” gun with everything I’ve put through it so far. Not too impressed. I’ve owned and do own Rugers for 50 years and they are solidly built but accuracy is always hit or miss. Anyways, that 16” barrel makes it LOUD. Anybody have any experience with the Kaw Valley linear comp?

Yes. They’re great. They work as advertised, while providing good recoil mitigation.

It’s hard to explain, they are still loud, obviously, since they aren’t suppressors, but the tone range is so much more tolerable for me.

I’m not a naked muzzle kind of human, so if it didn’t get a suppressor or a crazy offensive brake, it gets a KVP linear compensator.
