Ruger countdown here we go again

I left my comment on their site. It's a non starter IMO, the idea that shooters who are downsizing to 2 or less calibers, "other than 22" shows the lack of demand out there for a 327 anything. And a 23 oz bulky pistol the sr9c,with a few features copied from half a dozen different pistols, is not going to capitalize on the LCR's popularity. That ship has sailed. Cutting 3 ozs off of a full size gun and adding ambi safety and Mag releases, along with loaded chamber indicators that say loaded chamber indicator on them sounds like the suits forged ahead with this, hoping to capitalize on the past years success with their earnings made by producing a cheaper 380, than seacamp and roeger, along with a better aesthetically looking Keltec, for reasonable price is now over. I don't see this as being a sound move at all, unless I am not seeing something. It's a compromise, and not even a good one. If I want a light reliable pistol with 10 plus rounds, Sig, glock or M&P, I sure am not going for an SR9c, and if I want a keltec, it's almost half the weight, as are many others, this is a letdown. And price is not that big a difference. Even a taurus slim is a better lighter pistol IMO, Too many players here for the same dollar.

what a bunch of piranhas. . .you people act like you expected them to reinvent the modern day firearm.

Personally I would never own anything chambered in .327.

If I had an imaginary gun company with a giant countdown clock claiming to unveil something new and exciting, I would be unveiling something new and exciting. Not a smaller version of a mediocre gun, or a revolver chambered in a cartridge you can't buy anywhere. These product showcases would of done better in a half-page write-up in Guns and Ammo.

Don't hype something that doesn't deserve the hype.

Ruger can only cry wolf so many times...

I'm more excited about the Shot show now. Ruger must have known they were going to get overshadowed at the Shot show this year so they decided to pull a little publicity stunt a couple of weeks early. Not a bad idea actually.

Didn't Hitler mention something about revolvers that got him banned from the Brian Enos forum? :)

The more posts I read, the more I think we need an "I hate everything Ruger does" forum. Then posts could go there leaving room for reasonable discussion by others. A lot of folks will forever hate Ruger because of things done by Bill Ruger, a man long dead. Get real and notice his prejudices no longer affect company policy. Then there are those who think everything is Ruger produces is crap. I can assure you my two year old #1 can match any gun in its price range for quality. The same goes for my 9 year old Super Blackhawk, 11year old 10/22T, and my 30 year old Mk 1. In fact the only Ruger I ever owned that dissapointed was a Mini 14. Check out the opinion of cowboy action shooters of Ruger single actions and see how many think they are crap. They just keep going and going, My personal preference for a Uberti over the Vaquero does not mean everyone else's choice is inferior: a concept many don't seem to understand.

I can agree that the SR9C is pretty ho-hum, but (prepare yourself for a shock) tactical and ccw are not my primary interests. We should all own and be competent with this class of arms, but I feel my AR, AK, M1, M1911, S&W M60, Sig 239, and Makarov have fulfilled these needs nicely and my prime interests lie elsewhere.

Here's the big deal about the .327--it is the best small game and varmint handgun cartridge introduced in decades. Flat shooting, little recoil, greatly versatile with the ability to accept .32 H&R, and .32 S&W. Unfortunately, it was introduced in CCW guns, where any superiority to existing rounds eludes me. I am exceedingly pleased Ruger has introduced quality, affordable field guns in this caliber. I might have preferred lighter guns, but I am not yet so enfeebled that I cannot carry three pounds on my hip. As for difficulty of finding ammo, 90% of my ammo hs been purchased via internet for years. Funny how last year cartridges I enjoy, such as .257 Wby, .450/400 Nitro express, and .455 Webley were easily obtainable through internet sources while .223, 9m/m, and .380 were nowhere to be found. I applaud Ruger for promoting this round for its proper niche, for continuing to expand offerings in the current milieu, and for trying to generate some excitement amongst the shooting public.

gary

Gotta agree with garyhan here. Might not be what everybody wanted, but they are trying to popularize a good cartridge and making more headway into a field (ccw) that they arent known for.

Don't you guys see

Ruger used marketing hype to find out what we really want. I personally wasn't too impressed with the models that they introduced but i am only one of millions. Now Ruger has some new ideas to sent to their R&D department for the next best thing.
I personally was hoping to see Ruger 1911, but i suppose they will wait until next year to release that one!

Chicken-Farmer

While this Thread has turned into somewhat of a Ruger bashing thread, that wasn't the intent of my posts. There are some very fine Ruger products out there, Many that I would like to own that just haven't been at the very top of my "desire list" at the right time.

I am generally not impressed when a new gun comes out, unless its revolutionary, or a re-introduction of a older model. Either of which could of been worthy of a giant clountdown clock. The SR9c not so much...

Maybe I'm just hard to please.

If they had just re-introduced the .44 carbine, or a Vaquero in 7.62x39, I would be nothing but cheers!

the 1st recall for the sr9c will be cause of the ambi magazine release that pokes out a quater of an inch.
fumbling around for a dropped mag after the first round is fired is not what a SD gun is about.
and the custom holster that will protect both sides of the gun's mag release will be wide--very w i d e

for its size and weight i would save a bit more and get a sig p239
it is actually smaller, lighter and will retain its value.

I hate to say it... but i too was pretty let down.

I really don't think the SR-9c will sell much. Maybe only to "real" ruger fans but why get such a chunky gun when you can get a glock 26,27, or 33? Glocks are proven handguns and I believe it will be pretty hard for Ruger to surpass them. If it is priced reasonably low (around $400) maybe then I can see it being sold... maybe to first-time gun owners who are just really anxious to own something.

Sorry Ruger

I really like the SR9 and look forward to handling the SR9c. Where do people get info saying the SR9 has a bad trigger. I think it has a real nice trigger.

I put 50 rounds through one at an indoor range and the trigger was way too heavy and stacked heavily before the sear would trip. The manual safety was too low profile to be able to flick it up or down easily too. Otherwise, it seemed a nice gun. No comparison to my Sigs though.

oh boy. can't wait for jeff quinn to print how it "performed flawlessly" like always...

...or the Greshams proclaim it the greatest thing since the Taurus Judge and anything made by Olympic Arms.

What a disappointment. I thought they would do something new and cool. They put out a dinky little carry gun based on an existing platform. Big deal. I looked at the Ruger site and they can't even put a price on the thing. Magazines for the SR9 are $42 on the Ruger page and I can't imagine the SR9c will be any cheaper. I was actually looking for a decent carry gun over they next month or two but I can't see myself buying this thing.
I think I'll pass on this and just buy a Kahr or XD compact.

huge +1 lol :)

I had moderate hopes it would be something new or at least novel. Seriously, a compact version of one gun, and new chamberings in a couple others? And here I had my heart set on a polymer Speed Six...

Ruger to me means it will go bang every time.

Including when you drop it on the floor

Seriously, what do they think they're gonna accomplish with a 7-shot full size .327 when S&W has a 7-shot full size .357.

A single six in .327 would be kinda cool. I like my Single Six .32 H&R. But in a blackhawk?? That's like chambering a Barrett M-82 in .223.

And I agree with everyone else on the SR9c. A (lot of) day(s) late and (more than) a dollar short.

I'm not bashing Ruger at all. I have some of them and I want more. They just didn't have what I wanted this time.

SingleSix in .327=gold!

Blackhawk/GP100 in .327=what comes after bronze?

Make the X-GI work and dump the Mini30. And I'd still like a 96 in .480 or 45 Colt.

im not a ruger basher heck i own more ruger firearms than anything at the moment (yea im a poor boy lol)

but they didnt do anything spectacular enough to warrent the huge countdown

when they counted down the LCR it was a big deal (maybe not to all but the worlds first polymer revolver IS a big deal)

when they counted down the SR556 it was a big deal (ok not a huge deal but RUGER of all companies producing an AR and a piston AR at that was pretty big news)

maybe the compact SR9 is worth a little fuss over because ruger is about the only company without a compact model of their polymer pistol but the .327 market doesnt seam to be moving anywhere why all the fuss?

i jumped at the ruger LCR i thought that was something interesting for sure
maybe if they had made a 6 shot LCR in .327 it would have been worth reporting

i didnt like the idea but i would have much rather seen the 1911 but in the same vein i would have loved to have seen something completly new

who knows maybe they still have something up their sleeves for shot show

I wouldn't mind seeing Ruger come out with a 1911 remake if they set it up to use 12 to 14 round double stack magazines.

The SR9-C is a first for Ruger: a compact, high capacity carry gun.

Old hat from anyone else, but not from Ruger.

I can only hope they fixed the woeful trigger pull.

As a Ruger shareholder I'm once again underwhelmed by their less than amazing launch. The Chambering is a BAD CALL!
