Just the fact that I can't sleep, and will probably stay up to see what this is means that it will probably be something stupid. 
Judging by how much the hype everything they release, it probably won't be that great. If they came up with something really revolutionary, I would expect 2 minute commercials during the Super Bowl.
That said, I'd love a new 3" Speed Six.

The news is out . A .327 Blackhawk, a .327 GP100, and an SR9C. All way more interesting than yet another 1911, and the Blackhawk may get the gift certificated I got for Christmas.

I will admit I was a little let down by the news but the Sr9c seems like it could be a cool gun if there weren't like 100 other compact 9mm's. I am still partial to that compact Px4

I'm not seeing a lot of innovation from any manufacturers lately. Maybe there is nothing new under the sun, but I'm more inclined to believe manufacturers are in survival mode, fighting a tide of cheap imports and dwindling disposable income/leisure time.
It can't be fun selling toys that never wear out if you take care of them. Maybe it's bound to happen--the industry is just maturing. I have yet to find the perfect marriage of form, function and affordability, in handguns, rifles or shotguns, however.
Time for a new Mauser/Browning/Petters to emerge and shake up the landscape. Accuracy, adaptability and style considerations should get us a gun that looks good, works well and is less expensive to manufacture.
The wait goes on.

Funny...they let their own 480 Ruger die, but they are pushing the .327 Federal big-time.
I've got mixed emotions about the non-1911. A Ruger 1911 would be great, but what would they do that Rock Island isn't doing at the $400 price point?
As far as the SR9c, the only way I would buy that is if the trigger smooths out, straight from the box. I hate most striker-fired triggers.

It's all Internet marketing folks. Ruger, for what it is worth, is very good at it. Compare their website to S&W which is really what I'd call "Brochureware". Lot's of facts and information but not much pizzazz.
It is all about search engine optimization and traffic on the website. I can guarantee you that they have a team of web people who's job it is not to sell firearms, but simply to work their website, get people to hit it, and once there, get people to stay. So they've gone out and hired some kids fresh out of college to do the web work (which is quite good), they have a marketing director who does the strategic planning, they have content writers who take the specs from the actual engineers and they run it all past management for approval.
That countdown business had us all watching and their numbers I am sure are high. The fact that what they announced was pretty ho-hum in the world of firearms innovation doesn't matter any more. The web guys did their job...they had a buzz going there pretty good. Now it is up to the distributors and the rest.

I agree with HoosierQ on the marketing thing. But I don't know if there is a more dull and lackluster website then Glock.

I understand the marketing angle, but usually countdowns are reserved for exciting monumental things like New Year's, building demolitions, and launching spaceships, and even then, you just start at ten seconds.
With a multi-DAY countdown, I want a plasma-phased rifle that only harms bad guys.

AAAARRGGHH...another compact with a rail. A compact, hi-capish 9mm without a rail...that would have been worth a countdown!!!
