I have the opportunity to buy a Ruger GP100 6" Stainless steel, for $250.

Its used, barrel has a light scratch thats on one side, frame has a light scratch. No wheel play, or frame play, tough as a rock, trigger feels smoooooth ;)

The only part with a problem is the rear adjustable sight. It has the right "ear" broken off. Seams like a simple fix...

Grips look good..they are the stock wood with rubber border.

Opinions for that price?

Well ............. this is one helluva popular piece .... and I guess overall they hold price quite well .... but then also they are in the ''very good value'' category new ..... so used values not all that pricey usually.

JMHO ... I'd think (perhaps) with the flaws mentioned, possibly a tad less might be in order. depends where you are ... and the local market prices ... but if it was me - I'd be hoping to close a deal at perhaps $225 or even less. Most probs are cosmetic ... pity about sight but yeah ... fixable. Gotta offset that fix tho.

I'd take it for $200 no problem!

I'd buy it.

If you can talk him down some, do it, but don't let the sight be an issue--my guess is that Ruger will replace it free of charge if you tell them it's broken.

The best I have seen them go for around here is $239. So your price isn't bad, at least it is less than a new gun. And its a Ruger, the scratch don't mean anything towards it's durability.

Sounds like a done deal then. As far as holsters go, whats a good looking holster for it? I'm thinking along the lines of leather for this gun...while most of my guns sit in safariland's safari-laminate material..And kydex just doesn't seam to fit the bill..

Any pics of the Gp100 6" in a holster?

I just priced a new GP100 (4" and 6") SS at a local gun dealer and it was marked $389.00. I think that price you saw is good. Plus, I agree that Ruger may replace the rear sight. Call them before you consider the purchase.

I expect to sell my 4" GP-100, SS w/Pachmayr grips, holster, and everything like new, for $325.00.

Your prices may vary...

Ruger will repair any of their guns regardless if you are the original purchaser or the 15th owner. If you decide to buy it, call Ruger at (603) 865-2442 in Newport, NH and tell them the rear sight on "your" GP100 is broken and you want it fixed.

They may even comp the shipping charges both ways and if you ask them to just "check it over" when they receive it, they might even fix anything they find wrong or in need of TLC.

I have a GP100 in SS with a 6" barrel. Shot great right out of the box and after lots of dry-firing the trigger is getting smooth. Excellent accuracy, too (waaay more than me!!).

Rear sight blades are no problem...there are even tons of aftermarket patterns such as Express (shallow "V"), Ghost Ring, etc.

If this is a "full lug" 6", it's still a good deal. If it's the lighter barrel "half lug", that's even better as those have been discontinued and they handle like a 4" while giving the velocity and accuracy of a 6".

Its the full lug...Do you have a link to the aftermarket parts?

I was planning on shooting Ranger SXT rounds through it...Now to find a nice holster for EDC. Open carry is fine.

Ashley has Express-pattern rears that go well with their Tritium fronts (front tritium core is surrounded by either a small or large white enamel dot...this combination is ridiculously fast).

There's also the Oneraggedhole setup:

Oh, there's also Bowen's total replacement rear sight sets:

From there check out the "Target" and "Rough Country" rear sights. The latter is kinda cool, esp. for a fighting handgun - it's a sight that's designed NOT to go out of adjustment very easily, at the cost of more difficult initial adjustments. It's for the "set it once and forget about it" crowd. It's also available in both standard and "Express" variants.

These don't use a "blade insert", and generally fit tighter than the stock setup...so they're more accurate, and tougher.

Here's a review of the original (target) rear replacement:

Check around for other GP100 sight sets.

A new 4" SS goes for about $400 around here, if that helps. Bought one last year and love it.

I echo the suggestion that you try Ruger for a free or cheap fix. I have had good luck with their customer service folks and have heard several other good examples.

I bought a new 4" GP100 last year for $399. It was on sale. Their regular price is $429. I had bought a used 4" GP100 (in great condition) a couple years back for $335, and stupidly sold it at a gun show so I had to have another one. IMO, it's a must have gun in a must have caliber.

Personally, if I found a used one for $250 (even with a broken sight), I would jump on it in a second! I really want a 6"... and might end up with one pretty soon. Only problem is I want a blued one. All I seem to find are the freaking stainless ones.

Saw a new 6" blued one for sale at a gun show about a year back for $299. I decided to buy it there and then, but thought "why carry it around all day long" so I thought I'd come back and get it later on. When I came back, the guy was long gone. Nobody knew who he was or anything. :fire:

You won't regret it. Get the gun. Fix the sight. Good shooting and fun will soon follow!

Another vote here for: Yes! Go for it!
I have a four inch/ full lug/ fixed sight/ SS model.
Love that gun. Ended up putting a set of Hogue cocobolo monogrips on it.
Now I love it even more! If you can get the price down to $225-200 that's even sweeter.

i have the 6"stainless gp100,full lug.bought it new over a used smith model 27.the smith was blued..i hate scratches(the smith was 90%- wasnt scratched but it inevitably happens)i paid around 350 i believe back then.i like this gun alot.its accurate and built like a tank.the added weight of stainless steel and the full underlug help me fire it DA mode comfortably..get it...the price seems fair and the gun is a good gun.

Methinks it's a good price. Write Ruger and buy a new rear sight blade. You can install them yourself.
