First, I'd like to say "What an awesome website!" I just joined and am amazed at how much information is available, that all of you people have!
I acquired a Ruger M77 International (part of my Dad's collection) chambered for 7x57. My understanding is that there were'nt that many made. I searched the internet for info and couldnt find ANYTHING about that caliber for the International, i.e. when they were produced, how many were made, value, etc. It's unfired and in the box. S/N 770-923XX. Whats a good site for general info like this? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Try www.rugerforum.com for questions like this. Collectors there can help.

Functionally, if it's consistently accurate, it should be a fine hunting rifle.

Full stocks sometimes don't give as consistent a degree of accuracy as "normal" ones do, as they tend to swell or warp more.

I had 3 of the 77 RSI's in 7x57 at one time. I was an FFL at the time. From what I remember, they were made in late 1986 in a special run for a company called Wammes Corp. I bought 3 for Christmas of 1986, gave one to my (then) brother-in-law who traded it off a short time later for something else. I gave one to my father, and kept one for myself. At the time, they cost $319 each. I never shot mine, kept it stored properly, and sold it still NIB in '05. My father still has his, but it is used. If I remember the story correctly, Wammes Corp was going to have this special run of 500 made, but for some reason, there were only a couple hundred made.

That's about all I can remeber about them, hope it helps a little.

Thanks, Mr Chitlin. I have one in .308 also. I guess I'll keep the 7x57 in the box and play with the 308. Who knows, in a thousand years it may be worth quite a lot!

7x57

I have a few rifles in 7x57. My main gun is a Mauser (commercial) in 7x57 with dual set triggers, a Hensolt scope and it is sweet! I believe it may be the best all around round made for North America. I hunt with it more than twice as much as any other rifle I own.

I'd say if its consistently accurate, it needs to go in a museum as a one of a kind piece. I had one in 308, and it shot about 5-6 inch groups at 100 yards. That was on a good day.

I can do better than that with a lever action with iron sights.

I sold it, quite happily, I might add.
